    Dumoi Dumoi ranks as one of Luveniastop firms and has very strong ties withthe government. Its me-too strategy has been very successful in many foodcategories (cola, chocolate) including dairy and Dumoi has been able to consistentlylaunch strong copy-cat products.

    The Board of Directors includes five members: The ManagingDirector is a Luvenian woman with considerable experience within Group Danone.Has past experience in marketing and sales. The Marketing and Sales Director is oneof the two foreigners working in Luvenia. He is one of the Groups internationalmanagers, with an impressive track record. The Operations Director was hired 5years ago as a plant director. He graduated as an engineer from one of Luveniastopuniversities, and rapidly became director of a plant in a major international foodcompany. The Finance Director is a newcomer to DDL, as her predecessor was asked

    to fill an unexpected vacancy in a key South-American market. The Human ResourceDirector has been with DDL since its establishment in 1998, albeit in a differentposition (logistics). As such, he is probably one of the most knowledgeable peopleabout the Luvenian subsidiary.

    Danone Luvenia Employees- A total of 650 people currently work atDDL, including 140 managers. The average age is 33. The male/femalesplit is still 80/20, but improving. 45% of employees have at least auniversity degree, and the average seniority is about 7 years.

    Distribution channels- More than 115,000 small shops (under 50 m2)still carry the majority of the trade (75%). However, their number is

    going down (-25% in the past 10 years), and the number ofsupermarkets (> 400m2) has tripled in ten years, to reach a record highof 7000 stores. Milk and yoghurt are both among the top ten productgroups in both channels.

    Farm cooperatives - The creation of farm cooperatives in NorthLuvenia has several advantages: it helps increase milk quality, it reduces

    collection cost and it provides an impetus to local economicdevelopment. The idea is backed by the Northern state, who insists thatDanone should become an active investor. The investment is substantial,but achievable. An economic calculation shows that the project will notbe making money soon (15 year payback period, with high risk). Theagricultural ministry is asking for a rapid response.

    SMAKS- Danone Support for Mother And Kid Sites:In each Luveniandistrict, DDL has established a medical and information centre, togetherwith a major NGO. These centres give free nutritious and health-relatedadvices to mothers and their children.

    Danone Nations Cup:This event takes place in 40 countries worldwideand 2.5 million children participated in the last edition. In Luvenia, thecompetition is now informally known as The Danone, it actively involvesLuvenias Ministry of Education and more than 80,000 children took part inlast years event.

    months, i.e. when most of the mothers have given up breastfeeding, andbefore babies switch to standard nutrition. A two-year research protocol carefullyconducted in several countries has established the scientific validity of theproduct claim.

    Ardajan plant - The main weak points that have been identified are thesituation in the Ardajan plant, which was found less satisfactory and the gapbetween managers (this includes young graduates, middle and top-levelmanagers) and non-managers (administrative staff, technicians,supervisors and operators). The latter seem particularly dissatisfied

    regarding their access to information, training and developmentopportunities.
