Let s talk about Americas history ! Here are some interesting facts:

Stretching from the Atlantic to the Pacific and encompassing more than 3.79 millionsquare miles, the United States of America has a remarkable diversity of landscapesand climates, including the Southern swamps and Everglades, the immense GreatLakes, the soaring Rocky Mountains, the windswept Great Plains, the arid deserts of

the Southwest and over 12,000 miles of coastline. More than 10,000 years beforeChristopher Columbus landed in the Bahamas in 1492, ushering in an era of Europeancolonization of the New World, the nomadic ancestors of modern Native Americansbegan settling across the North American continent. In the 16th, 17th and 18thcenturies, immigrants who came to America seeking economic opportunity or religiousfreedom struggled to build thriving communities in the uncharted wilderness, often tothe detriment of indigenous peoples. By the 1770s, some 2.5 million European colonistshad settled in America. In 1776, those living in Great Britains 13 colonies declared theirindependence, sparking the Revolutionary War and transforming the United States of America into an autonomous nation. During the 19th and 20th centuries, 37 new states were added as the country expanded from coast to coast and beyond, even as internalconflicts such as the Civil War and the fight for equal rights for all citizens threatenedto divide the population. In the 20th century the United States played a major role inboth world wars and emerged as a leading global power. Today it boasts the largesteconomy on the planet and is home to 310 million people; California, Texas and New York are its most populous states.

    Explore The Great France!

France today is one of the most modern countries in the world andis a leader among European nations. It plays an influential globalrole as a permanent member of the United Nations Security

Council, NATO, the G-8, the G-20, the EU and other multilateralorganizations. France rejoined NATO's integrated militarycommand structure in 2009, reversing de Gaulle's 1966 decision totake French forces out of NATO. Since 1958, it has constructed ahybrid presidential-parliamentary governing system resistant tothe instabilities experienced in earlier more purely parliamentaryadministrations. In recent decades, its reconciliation andcooperation with Germany have proved central to the economicintegration of Europe, including the introduction of a commonexchange currency, the euro, in January 1999. In the early 21stcentury, five French overseas entities - French Guiana,Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, and Reunion - became Frenchregions and were made part of France proper.

    The Exotic and Fabulous Turkey

TURKEY IS A NEW COUNTRY in an old land. The modern Turkish state--beginning with the creation of the Republic of Turkey in the years immediately after World War I--drew on a national consciousness that had developed only in the late nineteenthcentury. But the history of nomadic Turkish tribes can be traced with certainty to thesixth century A.D., when they wandered the steppes of central Asia. Asia Minor, whichthe Turks invaded in the eleventh century, has a recorded history that dates back to theHittites, who flourished there in the second millennium B.C. Archaeological evidenceof far older cultures has been found in the region, however. The term Turkey , although sometimes used to signify the Ottoman Empire, was notassigned to a specific political entity or geographic area until the republic was foundedin 1923. The conquering Turks called Asia Minor, the large peninsular territory they had wrested from the Byzantine Empire, by its Greek name, Anatol (sunrise; figuratively, the East), or Anatolia.

Poland's history as a state begins near the middle of the 10th century. By themid-16th century, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth ruled a vast tract ofland in central and eastern Europe. During the 18th century, internal

disorders weakened the nation, and in a series of agreements between 1772and 1795, Russia, Prussia, and Austria partitioned Poland among themselves.Poland regained its independence in 1918 only to be overrun by Germany andthe Soviet Union in World War II. It became a Soviet satellite state followingthe war, but its government was comparatively tolerant and progressive.Labor turmoil in 1980 led to the formation of the independent trade union"Solidarity" that over time became a political force with over ten millionmembers. Free elections in 1989 and 1990 won Solidarity control of theparliament and the presidency, bringing the Communist era to a close. A"shock therapy" program during the early 1990s enabled the country totransform its economy into one of the most robust in Central Europe. Poland joined NATO in 1999 and the European Union in 2004. With itstransformation to a democratic, market-oriented country largely completed,Poland is an increasingly active member of Euro-Atlantic organizations.
