Campani i l e de săpaturi d i n 1980 ş i 1981 în a ş e z a r e a cucuteniană de pe O s t r o v , c o m . Drăguşeni , j u d . Bo toşan i , au adus s u r p r i z a d e s c o p e r i r i i a p a t r u p iese s c h e l e t i c e umane. După cum se ştie c u l t u r a m a t e r i a l ă a staţiunilor de l a Drăguşeni reprez in tă o variantă l o c a l ă a f a z e i A 4 a c u l t u r i i C u c u t e n i ^ . P e n t r u Drăguşeni ( la Lutăr ie ) ex is tă o s i n gură dată r a d i o c a r b o n : 3405 ± 100 ( B l n . 1 0 6 0 ) 2 .

Pe a l o c u r i fnsă m a r g i n e a tă ie tur i i a r e urme accentuate de r o a d e r e , i m p r i m a t e după îndepărtarea r e g i u n i i p r o x i m a l e a o s u l u i ( f i g . 1 b ) . Capătul opus ( d i s t a l ) a l f r a g m e n t u l u i a f o s t s p a r t n e r e g u l a t , l a un n i v e l ce precede b i f u r c a r e a l i n i e i a s p r e ( f i g . 1 a - b ) . L a c i r c a 25 mm sub tăietura prox imală , pe faţa a n t e r i o a r ă a o s u l u i se o b s e r v ă un g r u p de 6 -8 i n c i z i i f i n e , p r o v o c a t e de un i n s t r u m e n t tă ios ( f i g . 1 b ) . L i n i a a s p r ă es te b ine m a r c a t ă , c o n f e r i n d o s u l u i c ă t r e m i j l o c u l său o secţ iune tr iunghiulară . ( D A P d e a s u p r a s p ă r t u r i i d i s t a l e 27 ,5 » D T = 27 mm) . B i n e marcată es te ş i c r e a s t a s u b t r o -hanter iană .

P r o p o r ţ i i l e d i af i z e i ş i g r a d u l de d e z v o l t a r e a l a c e s t o r formaţ iuni indică provenienţa de l a un bărbat . G r o s i m e a p e r e ţ i l o r d i a f i z e i ş i corn -, p a c t i t a t e a o s u l u i r e l e v ă v î r s t ă pe d e p l i n adultă .

2) Mandibulă stîngă : p i esa a f o s t găs i tă l a c i r c a 3 0 - 4 0 cm de l i m i t a de v e s t a m a s e i de c h i r p i c i a locuinţe i 1 5 / 1 9 8 1 . F r a g m e n t u l c u p r i n d e r a m u r a or izonta lă cu a l v e o l e l e I ^ , C , P 1 - P 2 ! M-j ş i M2 sînt p r e zenţi ; a l v e o l a Mo este s u p e r f i c i a l ă , suger înd un m u g u r e d e n t a r f o r m a t , d a r încă n u în erupţ ie ( f i g . 2 b ) .

A r c a d a dentară a r e un t r a s e u a c c e n t u a t p a r a b o l o i d . A l v e o l a Ρ 2 a r e o poz i ţ i e ob l i că pe a r c a d ă ( f i g . 2 b ) . R e t r a g e r e a p e r e t e l u i v e s t i b u l a r a l a l v e o l e l o r I 2 , C ş i P^ se d a t o r e a z ă , p r o b a b i l , u n u i p r o c e s i n c i p i e n t de paradontoză ( f i g . 2 a ) .

C o r o a n e l e c e l o r d o i m o l a r i prezenţ i sînt r e l a t i v m a r i , c on t ras t înd c u propor ţ i i l e g e n e r a l e a l e c o r p u l u i m a n d i b u l a r . (tabula a deveni t concavă f n sens m e z i o - d i s t a l . I n ter^meni t e h n i c i , M1 prezintă o uzură f n s t a d i u l ( - 3 ) , i a r M2 f n s t a d i u l (1) .

S p a r g e r e a anter ioară a m a n d i b u l e i a a fec ta t zona g n a t i o n u l u i . Se poate totuşi o b s e r v a că mentonul e r a f o a r t e p r o e m i n e n t .

G r a c i l i t a t e a p i e s e i o recomandă ca p r o v e n i n d de l a o f e m e i e . V f r -s ta e i este m a i g r e u de a p r e c i a t , deoarece m o l a r u l a l 3 - l e a e r u p e i n t r e 17 ş i 27 a n i , d a r mugure le său este f o r m a t cu m u l t m a i d e v r e m e .

P i e s a c u p r i n d e o porţ iune d i n f r o n t a l cu m a r g i n e a s u p e r i o a r ă a o r b i t e i d r e p t e ş i o (bună) p a r t e d i n p a r i e t a l u l d r e p t . D i n s u t u r a i n t e r p a r i e t a l n u se p ă s t r e a z ă fnsă dec f t un segment f o a r t e s c u r t . Dat f i i n d s t a r e a de c o n s e r v a r e a c r a n i u l u i t oate d i m e n s i u n i l e sînt a p r o x i m a t i v e :

4) T i b i e dreaptă . A f o s t găsită în g r o a p a de gunoaie ( G r . 3 3 ) de pe l a t u r a nord i că a locuinţei 15 /1981 , a p r o a p e de colţul său n o r d - v e s -t i c . I n t r e aceas tă groapă ş i l o c u l unde s - a u găs i t f r a g m e n t e l e de c r a n i u ş i mandibulă distanţa e r a m a i mică de 1 m . Porţ iunea de groapă secţionată conţinea multă c e n u ş ă , f ragmente d i s p e r s a t e c e r a m i c e ş i de oase de a n i m a l e .

T i b i a a r e ambele e p i f i z e d e s p r i n s e . L a jumătatea d i a f i z e i , p e r e t e l e p o s t e r i o r este c o n v e x , f o r m a secţ iuni i î h c a d r î h d u - s e îh t i p u l V a l l u i H r d l i c k a , c o n s i d e r a t a f i p r o p r i u f e m e i l o r . I n d i c e l e cnemic o c l a s i f i c ă în g r u p a eur i cnemă, deş i aceasta se poate d a t o r a v f r s t e i f r a g e d e , u l t e r i o r putînd i n t e r v e n i r emode lăr i a l e o s u l u i .

L a s e x u l f e m i n i n , e p i f i z a r e a extremiţ i lor t i b i a l e n u se produce niciodată înainte de 14-15 a n i ş i se înche ie c ă t r e 16 -18 a n i .

Aplic înd f o r m u l a y = 5 8 , 7 + 2 , 9 0 . ι ί 6 , 8 , f n c a r e y = s t a t u r a ; χ = lung imea maximă a t i b i e i f ă r ă epi f ize- ' , s e deduce o înălţime de 89-90 cm, ceea ce înseamnă o t a l i e scundă p e n t r u o t înără de 17 -18 a n i .

Pe toate f e ţ e l e , d a r m a i cu seamă pe cea anter ioară ( d i s t a l ) şi m e dială ( la m i j l o c u l d i a f i z e i ş i s u b p r o x i m a l ) se constată i m p r e s i u n i a — p r o x i m a t i v p a r a l e l e , puţin a d î n c i , de c i r c a 1 mm lăţ ime . Credem a r e cunoaşte în aces tea m a i degrabă urme de g h e a r e sau c a n i n i de c a r n i v o r e (c î ini ? ) , dec f t d o v e z i a l e u n o r turburăr i de c r e ş t e r e ^ .

S - a r putea însă ca a f l a r e a u l t i m e l o r două p iese oarecum fn a c e e a ş i z o n ă , ca ş i v î r s tă corespunzătoare pe c a r e e le o ind i că , să f i e întfmplătoare ş l oasele s ă provină de fapt de l a două t i n e r e f e m e i de v î rs tă aprop ia tă .

Din punct de vedere a l condi ţ i i l or de d e s c o p e r i r e e le s - a u găs i t fn n i v e l u l de c ă l c a r e a l a ş e z ă r i i ( f e m u r u l , c a l o t a c r a n i a n a ş i m a n d i b u l a ) ş i f n groapă de gunoaie ( t l b i a ) .

Discuţ i i . F r a g m e n t e s c h e l e t i c e umane i z o l a t e f n a ş e z ă r i a l e c o m p l e x u l u i c u l t u r a l A r i u ş d - C u c u t e n i - T r i p o l i e ^ sînt cunoscute ş i d i n t r - o s e r i e de d e s c o p e r i r i a n t e r i o a r e . I n m a j o r i t a t e a l o r a u f o s t puse f h l e gătură cu locuinţe sau v e t r e .

A s t f e l , l a L u k a Vrubleveţkaia , f n b a z i n u l N i s t r u l u i ( P r è c u c u t e n i I I I = T r i p o l i e A ) , în locuinţa n r . 5 , l a ves t de v a t r a n r . 1 , o g r o a p ă p u ţin adîncă adăpostea ş a s e oase a l e u n u i c o p i l nou-născut sau f n p r i m a lună de viaţă**.

L a Frumuşica ( jud.Neamţ, n i v e l C u c u t e n i A ) s - a u r e c u p e r a t 7 - 8 p iese p r o v e n i n d d i n t r e i c r a n i i de f eme ie^ . După r e p r o d u c e r i l e d i n p l . I V p a r a f i porţiuni de f r o n t a l e ş i / s a u p a r i e t a l e . E l e a r f i f o s t g ă s i t e f n j u r u l u n o r v e t r e ( n r . 1 ş i 3 d i n suprafaţa I ş l n r . 9 d i n suprafaţa n)io.

D i n a ş e z a r e a de l a V e r e m i e , pe N i p r u l m i j l o c i u ( T r i p o l i e B / I l ) , d e l a l i m i t a une i p l a t f o r m e de l ocu inţă , se c i t ează un f r a g m e n t de c r a n i u , u n u l f e m u r a l ş i dinţi i zo laţ i i 1 .

De asemenea , ş i f n staţiuni de pe B u g u l i n f e r i o r sînt r a p o r t a t e r e s t u r i c r a n i e n e (în locuinţa n r . 6 de l a K o l o d i s t o e ş . a . ) 1 2 .

Situaţia p e r s i s t ă ş i fn f aza t f r z i e a c u l t u r i i (cînd e x i s t a u ş i c i m i t i r e în t inse ) , deoarece l a Kolomişc ina I ( b a z i n u l N i p r u l u i , T r i p o l i e C / l ) , pe podeaua locuinţe i n r . 2 7 , se a f l a un f r o n t a l i 3 .

T o t d i n f a z a t f r z i e t r ipo l iană , l a P a v o l o c i ( r e g i u n e a K i e v u l u i ) s - a u găsit opt oase umane de l a min imum d o i i n d i v i z i i 4 , l

D i n f o s t u l judeţ Bălţi se c i t ează r e s t u r i r ă z l e ţ e de adulţi ş i , c o p i i i 5f c a ş i i a B f r n o v a , pe N i s t r u ^ .

S u b l i n i e m însă c ă , c u c î t eva e x c e p ţ i i , m a j o r i t a t e a staţ iuni lor ( ca ş i a l t e l e ce v o r f i a m i n t i t e m a i j o s ) au f o s t săpate î n t r - o v r e m e c înd oase le de a n i m a l e n u e r a u adunate p e n t r u s t u d i u s a u e r a u adunate în mod s e l e c t i v numai p i e s e l e ce l e m a i î n t r e g i . E s t e d e c i f o a r t e p o s i b i l ca o s e r i e de f r a g m e n t e s c h e l e t i c e umane m a i g r e u de r e c u n o s c u t , cum a r f i d i a f i z e l e de oase l u n g i , v e r t e b r e l e e t c . , s ă f i rămas n e o b s e r v a t e . Pe de altă p a r t e , este f i r e s c ca atenţia a r h e o l o g i l o r s ă se f i c o n c e n t r a t a s u p r a conţinutului l o cu inţe lo r ş i a s u p r a m a t e r i a l e l o r d i n j u r u l v e -t r e l o r ş i a s t f e l s ă se f i r e c o l t a t ş i oase le umane , f n t i m p ce p i ese a— părute f n a f a r a a c e s t o r zone de m a x i m i n t e r e s să f i f o s t t r e c u t e cu v e d e r e a . De a l t f e l , B i b i k o v r e c u n o a ş t e c i n s t i t c ă ş i locuinţa n r . 2 de l a

De a ceea , n o i c r e d e m că asemenea f ragmente s c h e l e t i c e umane izo late s fn t mult mai f r e c v e n t e dec î t este consemnat f n l i t e ra tură , ş i nu numai f n a r i a de răsp înd i re a c u l t u r i i d i s c u t a t e , c i p r e t u t i n d e n i ş i d e - a l u n g u l întregului n e o - e n e o l i t i c sau poate c h i a r ş i mai t î r z i u . I n î n c e r c a r e a de a le găs i o e x p l i c a ţ i e , Ε . I . K r i c e v s k i a emis i p o t e z a , adoptată u l t e r i o r de T . P a s s e k ş i , mai r e c e n t , de T . M o v ş a ^ c g împrăşt ierea l o r fn a ş e z ă r i a r f i a v u t o semnif icaţie r i tua lă . T . P a s s e k a i n t e r p r e t a t f r o n t a l u l de l a Kolomişc ina I ca un ob ie c t păstrat f n locuinţă, l e g a t de v r e u n r i t u a l magic ş i nu ca p r o v e n i n d fn mod n e c e s a r d i n t r - u n m o r m f n t 1 9 .

Admiţînd c ă aceas tă ipoteză nu este c u t o t u l l ips i tă de t e m e i , cons iderăm c ă r e c e n t e l e d e s c o p e r i r i de l a Drăguşen i -Ost rov s fnt depar te de a o susţ ine ca un p r i n c i p i u g e n e r a l i z a t p r i n t r e t oa te comunităţile c u l t u r i i C u c u t e n i - T r i p o l i e ş i c ă , d impotr ivă , dezvălu ie n o i aspecte compor tamenta le a le a c e s t o r a . Es te de bănuit c ă o r ă s p î n d i r e r i t u a lă nu i n c l u d e a depunerea în g r o a p a de g u n o a i e , n i c i l ă s a r e a a c e s t o r " o b i e c t e " c u p r e s u p u s e p u t e r i magice l a d i s c re ţ ia c a r n i v o r e l o r , mai p r e c i s a c f i n i l o r , aşa cum dovedesc c e l puţin două d i n c e l e p a t r u p i e se de l a D r ă g u ş e n i - O s t r o v .

Pe de altă p a r t e , d i n date l e p u b l i c a t e , c a r e s - a u adunat f n c u r s u l c e r c e t ă r i l o r , p a r e v e r o s i m i l c ă populaţ i i le C u c u t e n i - T r i p o l i e p r a c t i cau c u l t u l c r a n i u l u i .

I n săpătur i le de l a începutul s e c . a l X X - l e a , f n a ş e z a r e a deja menţionată de l a V e r e m i e ( b a z i n u l N i p r u l u i m i j l o c i u , T r i p o l i e B / l l ) s -a consemnat c ă l a l i m i t a p l a t f o r m e i u n e i l o c u i n ţ e , d a r m a i j o s decît ea , z ă c e a un c r a n i u , avînd d e - o p a r t e ş i de a l t a un t o p o r d i n p ia tră ,un c u ţit d i n s i l e x ş i un t o p o r d i n a ramă , i a r f n j u r u l l o r t r e i v a s e p i c t a t e 2 0 .

După p r i m e l e informaţii t i L d e m să c r e d e m c ă ş i c r a n i u l găs i t l a G i r o v ( jud .Neamţ, C u c u t e n i A 4 ) 2 2 c o n s t i t u i e o dovadă de p r a c t i c ă a a c e s t u i c u l t . Amănunte p r i v i n d c o n t e x t u l f n c a r e se a f l a urmează , fără îndo ia lă , a f i c u r f n d p u b l i c a t e de d e s c o p e r i t o r , Ş t . C u c o ş , a căru i p ă r e r e va f i ho tăr î t oare f n a c e a s t ă pr iv in ţă . P i e s a r e p r e z i n t ă c a l o t a i n completă a u n e i f e m e i de 4 0 - 5 0 a n i , c a r e p a r e a f i f o s t supusă u n e i trepanaţi i f n r e g i u n e a i n f e r i o a r ă dreaptă a o c c i p i t a l u l u i . O . N e c r a s o v r e m a r c ă zona neobişnuită p e n t r u p r a c t i c a r e a u n e i asemenea i n t e r v e n ţi i " c h i r u r g i c a l e " , dat f i i n d d i f i c u l t a t e a de a îndepărta t oa te f a s c i c o l e l e m u s c u l a r e c a r e se i n s e r ă . Credem c ă , legată de a c e l a ş i c u l t a l c r a n i u l u i , d a r p o s i b i l f ă c înd p a r t e d i n t r - u n r i t u a l m a i e l a b o r a t , se în cadrează ş i c a l v a incompletă a unei f eme i de c i r c a 60 a n i 2 ^ , d e s c o p e r i t ă de r e g r e t a t a H o r t e n s i a D u -m i t r e s c u în a ş e z a r e a de l a T r a i a n - D e a l u l Fîhtîni lor ( jud .Neamţ , Cucut e n i A - B ) ^ . C a l v a e r a aşezată pe s t înga , c u p r i v i r e a s p r e e s t , p e t i p s i a u n u i vas cu p i c i o r ş i înconjurată de vase de o f randă .

D i n a r i a de răsp înd i re a c u l t u r i i c u c e r a m i c ă pictată d i s c u t a t e nu l i p s e s c fnsă n i c i m o r m i n t e l e " c l a s i c e " p e n t r u n e o - e n e o l i t i c u l E u r o p e i (şi a l A s i e i de s u d - v e s t ) : înhumaţia f n poz i ţ i e c h i r c i t ă , m a i r a r întinsă. Acestea e r a u săpate în i n t e r i o r u l a ş e z ă r i l o r ş i nu g r u p a t e în c i m i t i r e s e p a r a t e .

L a S o l o n c e n i I I (pe N i s t r u ) , l a 0 , 2 5 - 0 , 3 0 m sub co l ţul de s u d - e s t a l p l a t f o r m e i l ocu inţe i n r , 3 (etapa m i j l o c i e T r i p o l i e B / l ) , s - a găs i t u n schelet complet o r i e n t a t S E - N V , c u l c a t pe s t înga , cu p i c i o a r e l e f o a r t e c h i r c i t e , c a p u l parţ ia l cu faţa f n j o s , îngropat ceva m a i adînc d e c f t t r u p u l ; mfna stînga e r a al ipită de fa ţă , a c o p e r i n d m a n d i b u l a . A a p a r ţ i nut unu i bărbat t fnăr , f n v f rs tă de 18 -19 a n i . L a 4 0 - 7 0 cm s p r e v e s t s-au d e z v e l i t f r ? gmente d i n p a t r u vase s p a r t e . C o n t u r u l g r o p i i nu a putut f i d i s t i n s .

L a C e r n i a h o v o ( N i p r u l m i j l o c i u , T r i p o l i e B /n) s - a găs i t u n schelet c u l c a t pe s t înga , cu c a p u l s p r e n o r d , cu p i c i o a r e l e p u t e r n i c f l exa te , cu mfna stfngă sub c a p . E r a înconjurat de " p a t r u m o r m i n t e de incinaraţie" (? ! n . n s . ) . . . " ş i t r e i v a s e " 2 ^ .

I n a c e e a ş i m i c r o r e g i u n e , d i n nou l a V e r e m i e ( T r i p o l i e B / l l ) , sub', s t r a t u l de dărîmături a l u n e i l o c u i n ţ e , f n t r - o g r o a p ă s p e c i a l amenajată ( d ^ i e n s i u n i 1 , 6 0 χ 1 , 1 0 χ 0 , 7 5 m ) , a i c ă r e i p e r e ţ i f u s e s e r ă a r ş i , se afla s c h e l e t u l u n u i bărbat c h i r c i t pe d r e a p t a , cu c a p u l s p r e s u d - v e s t , cu p i c i o a r e l e f o a r t e a d u n a t e , înconjurat de bu lgăraş i de p ă m î n t ^ 0 .

în t r - o fază t f r z i e , odată m a i m u l t l a Kolomişc ina I ( b a z i n u l N i p r u -l u i , T r i p o l i e C / l ) , p r i n t r e l o c u i n ţ e , s - a d e s c o p e r i t s c h e l e t u l u n u i b ă r bat p u t e r n i c c h i r c i t pe s t înga , c u braţe le îndoite d i n cot ş i m f l n i l e în dreptul f e ţ i i . I n j u r u l său nu s - a u o b s e r v a t ob i e c t e s u s c e p t i b i l e de a reprezenta o f r a n d e . G r o a p a nu a p u t u t f i i d e n t i f i c a t ă ^ .

O d e s c o p e r i r e fhtfmplătoare de pe t e r i t o r i u l ţăr i i n o a s t r e , l a D o -boşenl , j u d . Covasna , r i d i c ă p r o b l e m a u n u i mormînt d u b l u ( s a u m u l t ip lu? ) : f n p r e a j m a comunei ex is ţă g r o p i cojnţinfnd m a t e r i a l c e r a m i c i

I n t r - u n a d i n e le (gr .nr .6) ,după re la tăr i l e l o c a l n i c i l o r , zăceau a lăturat , pe un s t r a t de c e n u ş ă , s c h e l e te c h i r c i t e avînd l a p i c i o a r e un vas cu a n a l o g i i f n f aza culturală m e n ţionată^^. D i n sche le te s - a u r e c u p e r a t numai puţine oase s t u d i a t e de O . N e c r a s o v : ca l o ta f ragmentară , p r o b a b i l a u n e i f e m e i a d u l t e , două porţiuni p o s i b i l d i n a c e e a ş i mandibulă ş i , v e r o s i m i l , t o t de f eme ie , ca ş i un m e t a t a r s i a n drept-* . A ş a d a r , f i e toate p i e s e l e p r o v i n de l a a¬c e e a ş i persoană de sex f e m e n i n , f i e f n groapă s - a u a f l a t două sau t r e i d e f u n c t e .

Ş i m a i problematică este a f l a r e a , t o t fnt fmplătoare , a două morminte l a Ozarinţ ( N i s t r u l m i j l o c i u , T r i p o l i e A ) . L o c a l n i c i i , c a r e l e - a u g ă s i t , au a f i r m a t c ă s che le te l e e r a u f n poziţ ie ş e z f n d ă ; T . M o v ş a b ă nuieşte însă c ă f u s e s e r ă depuse c h i r c i t e ^ .

Comunităţilor C u c u t e n i - T r i p o l i e s - a r putea să nu l e f i f o s t străina n i c i înhumarea f n poziţ ie înt insă . D e s p r e o asemenea mai veche descop e r i r e de l a Ş c e r b a n e v s k i (pe N i p r u , T r i p o l i e B / l l ) ex i s tă doar o succintă r e f e r i r e - * - * .

L a T r a i a n - D e a l u l F înt în i l o r , H o r t e n s i a D u m i t r e s e u consemnează, c ă , în p a r t e a de v e s t a a ş e z ă r i i ( s e c t o r u l I ) , r e s t u r i l e C u c u t e n i A - B a p a r l a adîncimea de 0 , 2 5 - 0 , 3 0 m . L a - 0 , 5 0 m s - a u găs i t două s c h e l e te întinse pe s p a t e . T e x t u r a d e p o z i t u l u i nu a p e r m i s d e l i m i t a r e a gro p i l o r . Cu multă re t i cenţă a u t o a r e a d e s c o p e r i r i l o r p r e c i z e a z ă că dacă m o r m i n t e l e sînt contemporane l o c u i r i i C u c u t e n i A - B , a t u n c i e le au f o s t săpate p r i n t r e locuinţe sau cu puţin t i m p înaintea c o n s t r u i r i i a¬c e s t o r a . Ambele s c h e l e t e e r a u o r i e n t a t e cu c a p u l s p r e N N E . Unul d i n t r e e l e , a ce la a l u n u i bărbat de c i r c a 25 a n i , avea braţul d rep t întins pe l îngă c o r p ş i antebraţul stîng pe abdomen. S t a r e a l u i de c o n s e r v a r e e r a p r o a s t ă , mul te componente l i p s i n d . S i m a i f r a g m e n t a r s - a păstrat c e l d e - a l d o i l e a s c h e l e t , a ce la a l u n e i f e m e i de c i r c a 25 a n i . A p a r e n t , m o r m i n t e l e e r a u l i p s i t e de i n v e n t a r . T o t u ş i , l a 20 cm V S V , de unde a r f i t r e b u i t s ă f i e l a b a p i c i o r u l u i d r e p t a l bărbatului , se a f l a un f r a g m e n t de c o r n de c e r b l u s t r u i t ş i perforat-***.

Deocamdată u n i c în f e l u l s ă u , găsit în 1957 a p r o a p e în c e n t r u l geog r a f i c a l a r i e i c u l t u r i i C u c u t e n i - T r i p o l i e , este mormîntul de l a N e z -v i s k o , pe N i s t r u l s u p e r i o r . A ş e z a r e a es te p lur i s t ra t i f i ca tă , conţinînd zece o r i z o n t u r i c u l t u r a l e ş i c r o n o l o g i c e , de l a c e l c u c e r a m i c ă l i n i a r ă pînă l a c e l de s e c . X I I - X I I I e . n . , i n c l u s i v două n i v e l e t r i p o l i e n e ( B / l ş i I I ) , t oa te c u p r i n s e f n t r - o g r o s i m e de 3 , 5 - 4 m de d e p u n e r i s u c c e s i v e .

Mormîntul în s i n e s - a găs i t p r i n t r e l ocu inţe le de l a s f î r ş i tu l e t a p e i T r i p o l i e B / l l ( = C u c u t e n i A - Β ) . L i m i t a s u p e r i o a r ă a a c e s t u i s t r a t de cultură se a f l a l a - 2 m sub n i v e l u l a c t u a l , i a r g r o a p a m o r m î n t u l u i c u peste 1 m m a i j o s , f u n d u l său f i i n d a d f n c i t l a - 3 , 3 8 m f n d e p o z i t de c u l o a r e ga lbenă . C o n t u r u l g r o p i i e r a o a r e c u m d r e p t u n g h i u l a r , cu d i m e n s i u n i de a p r o x i m a t i v 2 , 1 χ 1 ,2 m . L a p i c i o a r e l e d e f u n c t u l u i s -a g ă s i t un vas f o a r t e asemănător cu un a l t u l d i n c u p r i n s u l locuinţe i n r . 19*

Poz i ţ i i de î n -m o r m f n t a r e s i m i l a r e se întî lnesc s p r e e s t , în c i m i t i r e l e p lane de pe N i p r u ( N a d p o r o j i a ) , a t r i b u i t e de D o b r o v o l s k i n i v e l u l u i c u l t u r a l Srednî i Stog I I , ş i m a i s p r e s u d , pe m a l u l stîng a l N i s t r u l u i , în t r e i m o r m i n te ( M . 25 , 31 ş i 35 : un c o p i l , un bărbat ş i o f emeie ) d i n c i m i t i r u l d e ia Vfhvatinţi, încadrat de a r h e o l o g i i s o v i e t i c i în " T r i p o l i e t î r z i u " . T a -t i a n a Passek a c o n s i d e r a t ce le t r e i m o r m i n t e ca f i i n d m a i t i m p u r i i dec î t r e s t u l n e c r o p o l e i .

S c h e l e t u l de l a N e z v i s k o a aparţinut u n u i bărbat de (60) -65 a n i . A -u a l i z a antropo log i că a r e l e v a t t răsătur i neaşteptate , c o r e s p u n z ă t o a r e t i p u l u i a r m e n o i d : un c r a n i u s c u r t ş i l a t , o faţă f o a r t e la tă , în d i z a r -monie cu mandibu la moderat g r a c i l ă . Debeţ este de p ă r e r e că a n s a m b l u l part i cular i tăţ i lor nu a r e un c a r a c t e r r a s i a l , c i m a i degrabă i n d i v i d u a l 3 8 .

Pe p a r t e a stîngă a frunţii s - a u cons ta ta t două zone l e z a t e , p r o v o cate de l o v i t u r i cu un t o p o r de p iatră s a u m e t a l . Pe m a x i l a r u l s u p e r i - , o r l i p s e s c toţi dinţii ş i , ca u r m a r e , s - a p r o d u s o r e s o r b ţ i e c o m p l e tă a a l v e o l e l o r , p a r t e a anter i oară a m a x i l a r u l u i a deven i t f o a r t e t o cită ş i b o l t a palatină f o a r t e p lată . O s u l nu prez intă însă n i c i o urmă de m a l a d i e . Pe mandibulă, dentiţia este comple tă , d a r c o r o a n e l e a u o uzură avansată ş i inega lă . G h e r a s i m o v ^ af irmă c ă r e s o r b ţ i a i n t e gra lă a a l v e o l e l o r se p r o d u c e după 8 -10 a n i de l a e d e n t a r e ş i , c h i a r ş i a t u n c i , numai în absenţa u n e i p r o t e z e , c a r e menţine c u r b u r a b o i t e i p a l a t i n e . A ş a d a r , bărbatul r e s p e c t i v ş i - a r f i p i e r d u t dentiţia s u p e r i -oară ( a u t o r u l p r e s u p u n e în t r - o luptă) c u m a i m u l t de 10 a n i înaintea morţii s a l e .

Am r e z e r v a t un spaţiu a p a r t e c e l o r p a t r u înmormîntări " în g r o p i c i r c u l a r e " d i n a ş e z a r e a C u c u t e n i A - B de l a T r a i a n - D e a l u l F î n t î n i -l o r , c a r a c t e r i z a t e de H o r t e n s i a D u m i t r e s c u ca făc îhd p a r t e " d i n c a t e g o r i a c e l o r c u r i t u a l de j e r t f e umane"40 #

G r o a p a ^ / 1 9 5 2 , cu d i a m e t r e l e de 2 , 1 0 χ 2 m , dezve l i tă sub p l a t f o r m a u n e i l o c u i n ţ e , conţinea 28 vase întreg i s a u f r a g m e n t a r e , d ispuse ; pe un s t r a t de 3 -4 cm de c e n u ş ă . Une le vase e r a u umplute c u c e n u ş ă , c ă r b u n e , oase a r s e de a n i m a l e , m e l c i . I n t r - o m a r g i n e a g r o p i i , î n p a r te peste f r a g m e n t e c e r a m i c e ş i parţ ia l a c o p e r i t de a l t e l e , s - a a f l a t un s c h e l e t a l c ă r u i cap ş i t r u n c h i z ă c e a u c u l c a t e pe p a r t e a d r e a p t ă , p i -c i o a r e l e f i i n d c u g e n u n c h i i în j o s . Oasele m f i n i i d r e p t e n u a u f o s t g ă s i t e .

T o t în c u p r i n s u l u n u i complex de locuinţe s - a d e s c o p e r i t g r o a p a S/1952, în c a r e s c h e l e t u l u n u i c o p i l sub 10 a n i e r a p l a s a t d i r e c t pe pămînt, pe p a r t e a s t îngă , cu c a p u l s p r e e s t , înconjurat ş i a p r o a p e comp le t a c o p e r i t de 14 vase întreg i sau s p a r t e . S i în a c e s t caz v a s e l e î n t r e g i e r a u p l i n e c u c e n u ş ă , c ă r b u n e , c o n c h i l i i de m e l c i ş i oase de a¬n i m a l e . In vecinătatea c a p u l u i m a i e r a u c î teva p i e t r e , o r î şn i ţă ş i u w f r e c ă t o r .

Cea d e - a t r e i a groapă s - a săpat i n 1956 ( fn S . Z ) , f i i n d plasată t o t f n p r e a j m a une i l o cu inţe . Adfncită pfnă l a - 1 - 1 , 30 m , ea avea d i -a m e t r e l e de 1,40 χ 1 ,50 m . In i n t e r i o r u l e i s - a u i d e n t i f i c a t f r a g m e n t e d i n 23 vase ş i oasele f o a r t e răvăş i te a le u n u i s che le t p o s t - c r a n i a n . S i n g u r e l e c o n e x i u n i anatomice o b s e r v a t e s - a u l i m i t a t l a g r u p u r i de v e r t e b r e t o r a c i c e ş i l o m b a r e , p r e c u m şi f e m u r u l ş i t i b i a s t fngă , depuse c u p a r t e a anter i oară f n j o s . A n a l i z a a n t r o p o l o g i c ă ^ a p r e c i z a t oă a¬c e s t e i t i b i i f i l i p s e a e x t r e m i t a t e a distală ; f n s c h i m b , d i n t i b i a dreaptă s - a păstrat n u m a i jumătatea d i s ta lă . R e s t u r i d i n ambele s c a p u l e s f n t p r e z e n t e , d a r nu ş i d i n c e l e l a l t e oase a le m e m b r e l o r s u p e r i o a r e . S c h e l e t u l a aparţinut u n u i bărbat f n v î rs tă de peste 25 a n i , c u o statură de n u m a i 1 ,45 m , vădind tulburări de c r e ş t e r e .

In s f f r ş i t , f n t r - o g roapă cu d i a m e t r e l e de 1 , 1 0 χ 0 , 9 0 m ş i â d f n c imea de - 1 ,45 m ( fn S . V l / 2 / 1 9 5 6 ) , d i s p u s e pe c f t eva c i o b u r i p i c t a te d i n faza A - B , se a f l a u oase d e r a n j a t e d i n s c h e l e t u l u n u i c o p i l de 8 -9 a n i . S i a c i c r a n i u l l i p s e a . De a l t f e l , d e s c o p e r i t o a r e a a f i r m ă : " C a d a v r u l p a r e a f i f o s t amputat "42 β s t u d i u l o s t e o l o g i c a i d e n t i f i c a t p r e zenţa u n u i număr r e s t r f n s de componente s c h e l e t i c e , ş i anume: un h u m e r u s , f ragmente d i n v e r t e b r e , d i n ambele c o x a l e , d i n ambele f e m u r e ş i d i n t i b i i 4 3 .

L a 20 cm d e a s u p r a c o p i l u l u i s - a găs i t c r a n i u l f e m e i i c u l c a t pe t i p s i a v a s u l u i cu p i c i o r ^ . s ă f i f o s t v r e o l egătură f n t r e e l e ?

In c a z u l c e l o r d o i c o p i i este g r e u de hotărft dacă absenţa totală a u n o r oase este consec inţa măcinări i t o t a l e a ţesutului s l a b m i n e r a l i -za t sau a u n o r amputări r i t u a l e . N i se p a r e fnsă c ă absenţa o r i c ă r e i porţiuni c r a n i e n e ( i n c l u s i v a dentiţiei) d i n g r o a p a S . V l / 2 / 1 9 5 6 nu poate f i pusă pe seama acţiunii f i z i c o - c h i m i c e a s o l u l u i .

De asemenea , aşa cum a p r e s u p u s iniţial ş i a u t o a r e a d e s c o p e r i -r i l o r 4 5 , e s t e p o s i b i l ca g r . δ / 1 9 5 2 să r e p r e z i n t e un mormînt p r o p r i u -z i s : înhumatul, i n t r o d u s după vase le de o frandă într -un spaţiu f n g u s t rămas l i b e r , a f o s t c u l c a t iniţ ial pe d r e a p t a , r ă s u c i r e a anormală a m e m b r e l o r i n f e r i o a r e p r o d u c f n d u - s e u l t e r i o r , p r i n p r e s i u n e a pămfhtu-l u i .

Nu l a f e l se poate i n t e r p r e t a situaţia d i n S . Z / 1 9 5 6 , f h c a r e a m - , p u t a r e a ante sau post m o r t e m n i se dezvălu ie c u un m a r e g r a d de pro b a b i l i t a t e , f a p t c a r e a dus ş i l a o d i s p u n e r e haot i că a p ă r ţ i l o r de t r u p Înhumate.

O p r i m a c e a s t ă t r e c e r e f n r e v i s t ă a cunoşt inţe lor d e s p r e r e s t u r i l e umane d i n a r i a c u l t u r i i C u c u t e n i - T r i p o l i e l a i n t e r e s a n t u l c i m i t i r de l a Vfhvatinţi , pe N i s t r u 4 * * . Aceas ta f n p r i m u l r f n d p e n t r u c ă atenţia n o a s t ră a f o s t f n mod s p e c i a l reţ inută de d e s c o p e r i r i de oase umane f n cont e x t e s i m i l a r e c e l o r de l a D r ă g u ş e n i - O s t r o v , r e s p e c t i v îh a ş e z ă r i , ş i , f h a l d o i l e a r f n d , d e o a r e c e , c o n t r a r c e r c e t ă t o r i l o r s o v i e t i c i J ? r e i s t o r i -c i e n i i români t i n d să c r e a d ă c ă evoluţ ia c u l t u r i i se în che iase f n a doua, jumătate a m i l e n i u l u i a l t r e i l e a 4 ? , de c f n d datează n e c r o p o l a a m i n t i t ă . !

Nu ne -am propus n i c i să insistăm a s u p r a in terpre tăr i l o r date î n -mormfhtărilor r i t u a l e , s a c r i f i c i i l o r r i t u a l e e t c . 4 8 . Am î n c e r c a t d o a r să demonstrăm d i v e r s i t a t e a s ituaţi i lor în c a r e s - a u găsit r e s t u r i l e s che le t i ce pe întregul c u p r i n s a l t e r i t o r i u l u i ocupat de populaţi i le cucuten iene . î n t r - a d e v ă r , pînă în momentul de faţă nu se pot d i s t i n g e n i c i m i c r o r e g i u n i , n i c i etape c r o n o l o g i c e f n c a r e s ă f i dominat l i e un anume r i t u a l de i n n u m a r e mai mult sau m a i puţin c o n s t a n t , f i e un p r e supus c e r e m o n i a l de m a g i e . Am s u b l i n i a t - nădăjduim, cu s u f i c i e n t e a r gumente - că d e s c o p e r i r i l e de l a D r ă g u ş e n i - O s t r o v r e f l e c t ă un a s p e c t nou , poate neaşteptat , a ce la a l nepăsăr i i faţă de defuncţ i , sau măcar faţă de u n i i d i n t r e e i . In a c e e a ş i măsură , i n c i z i i l e de pe d i a f i z a f e m u rală (poate ş i u r m e l e de r o a d e r e ? ) nu pot f i legate dec î t de p r a c t i c i a n t r o p o f a g e , i n d i f e r e n t dacă e le îmbrăcau un c a r a c t e r r i t u a l sau n u .

In înche iere se c e r r e a m i n t i t e puţinele informaţii p r i v i n d s t r u c t u r a f i z i că a a c e s t o r populaţ i i . S e r i a m a i de mult d e s c o p e r i t ă l a B i -c z e - Z l o t e 4 ^ , bărbatul de l a L i p c a n i ^ O ş| femeia de l a Doboşeni51 v ă desc , p r i n i n d i c e l e d o l i c o c r a n ş i p r i n g r a c i l i t a t e , c a r a c t e r e m é d i t e -r a n o i d e . Despre femeia matură de l a T r a i a n - D e a l u l Fîntfnilor ( c a l v a depusă pe t i p s i a v a s u l u i c u p i c i o r ) , c u un i n d i c e l a l i m i t a d i n t r e mezo şi d o l i c o c r a n , se afirmă că a r p r e z e n t a afinităţi cu a c e l a ş i t i p m o r f o l o g i c . I n a l t e r n a t i v a f n c a r e a r f i f os t contemporană a c e l e i a ş i a ş e z ă r i , şi femeia t în ară înhumată f n poz i ţ ie întinsă a r f i aparţinut t o t t i p u l u i m e d i t e r a n o i d ^ 2 .

C r a n i u l d i n mormîntul de l a V e r e m i e e r a m e z o c r a n , d a r Debeţ n u 1-a încadrat fn v r e o variantă t i p o l o g i c ă .

T o t m e z o c r a n e r a ş i tfnărul de l a S o l o n c e n i I I , l a c a r e m a n d i b u l a ' pare a f i f o s t mas ivă . S - a s u b l i n i a t c ă e l se d e o s e b e ş t e de s e r i a V f h -vatinţi, g ă s i n d u - ş i a n a l o g i i p r i n t r e populaţi i le n e o l i t i c e de d i n c o l o de N i p r u , m a i cu seamă p r i n t r e ce le d i n c i m i t i r u l de l a V o v n i g s k o v o 5 3 .

T r ă s ă t u r i l e a r m e n o i d e a l e e x e m p l a r u l u i de l a N e z v i s k o a u f o s t deja a m i n t i t e .

Recent , s i n t e t i z f h d d e s c o p e r i r i l e d i n a r i a c u l t u r i i C u c u t e n i - A -riuşd l a n o i f n ţ a r ă , Olga N e c r a s o v conch ide ,pe baza c e l o r c i n c i ca -z u r i s t u d i a t e , a s u p r a u n u i " f o n d m e d i t e r a n o i d , căru ia i se adaugă două f o r m e b r a h i c r a n e , d i n t r e c a r e una c u o c c i p i t a l a p l a t i s a t , c a r e ar putea c o r e s p u n d e t i p u l u i d i n a r o i d sau a r m e n o i d ş i c ă r u i a n u - i c u noaştem n i c i importanţa numer i că , n i c i o r i g i n e a " 5 4 . E x c l u z f n d e x e m p l a r e l e a l e c ă r o r c a r a c t e r e dovedesc măcar afinităţi m e d i t e r a n o i d e , f o r mele b r a h i c r a n e a r f i f eme ia de l a G i r o v ş i bărbatul înhumat f n p o z i ţie întinsă pe spate de l a T r a i a n - D e a l u l F î h t f n i l o r .

F ă r ă îndo ia lă , eşantionul c u c u t e n i a n d i n România este p r e a m i c pentru g e n e r a l i z ă r i sau c o n c l u z i i . D i v e r s i t a t e a m o r f o l o g i c ă o b s e r v a t ă se adaogă însă c e l e i d i n r e s t u l a r i e i t e r i t o r i a l e a c u l t u r i i . Pe de a l tă p a r t e , o r i c a r e a r f i î n c a d r a r e a culturală a c i m i t i r u l u i de l a V f h v a -tinţi, d i n punct de v e d e r e e t n i c e l conţine c u s iguranţă descendenţ i a i populaţii lor cucuten iene p r o p r i u - z i s e . O r , oe le 11 s c h e l e t e de adulţi,

c a r e au putut f i s t u d i a t e , evidenţiază di ferenţe m a r c a t e f n t r e sexe : bărbaţi i au o t a l i e m i că , c r a n i i cu l u n g i m i m i j l o c i i , lăţimi f o a r t e m i c i , fnălţimi moderate ş i feţe înguste , d e c i m e d i t e r a n o i z i " c l a s i c i " ; f e m e i l e , cu o conformaţie s che l e t i că r e l a t i v r o b u s t ă , m e z o c r a n e , c u f e ţe l a t e , se a p r o p i e m a i mult de p r o t o e u r o p i z i i a t e n u a ţ i ^ . M . V e l i k a n o -va se întreabă dacă aceste di ferenţe r e f l e c t ă o situaţie r e a l ă sau sînt d o a r a p a r e n t e , datorită numărului mic de c a z u r i a n a l i z a t e , d a r t inde s ă c r e a d ă mai degrabă î n t r - o h e t e r o g e n i t a t e a populaţ ie i , dec î t în u n i ta tea e i .

Dacă a c e s t e i s c u r t e t r e c e r i în r e v i s t ă i se m a i c e r e adăugată o r e m a r c ă f inală , aceasta a r f i c ă nu ştim încă dacă făur i tor i i s p l e n d i d e i c e r a m i c i p i c t a t e , pe baza c ă r e i a s -a r e c u n o s c u t c u l t u r a C u c u t e n i -T r i p o l i e , f o r m a u o populaţie unitară sau un cong lomerat de populaţi i . Dar ş i mai g r e u este de pătruns în domeniu l c r e d i n ţ e l o r l o r s p i r i t u a l e ( la dezvă lu irea c ă r o r a ş i nespec tacu loase l e f r a g m e n t e s c h e l e t i c e pot avea o contr ibuţ ie ) , ceea ce face ca c e r c e t a r e a l o r s ă f i e c u atît m a i a t răgătoare ş i m a i interesantă .

S u m m a r y

E x c a v a t i o n i n the 1980-1981 seasons a t t h e C u c u t e n i A4 s e t t l e ment of Drăguşeni (Botoşani c o u n t y ) b r o u g h t to l i g h t f o u r h u m a n bone f r a g m e n t s . T h e i r p o s i t i o n i s unques t i onab le because the s e t t l e m e n t has a s i n g l e l i v i n g f l o o r . O n l y one r a d i o c a r b o n date i s a v a i l a b l e f o r i t : 3405±100 ( B i n 1060 ) .

A p r o x i m a l f e m u r d i a p h y s i s of a n a d u l t male was f o u n d i n t h e c u l t u - i r a l l a y e r ( S X X H i / 1 9 8 0 , O 6 , = 0 . 4 0 - 0 . 6 0 m ) . Us p r o x i m a l e n d was cut and i t s edges b e a r m a r k s of g no w i n g . The a n t e r i o r f a ce o f t h e sha f t d i s p l a y s a g r o u p of i n c i s i o n s made w i t h a s h a r p i m p l e m e n t .

A r i g h t t i b i a w i t h un fused e p i p h y s i s , b e l o n g i n g to a y o u n g f emale a g e d 15 -17 y e a r s , was r e c o v e r e d f r o m the g a r b a g e p i t N o . 3 3 of b u i l d i n g N o . 1 5 . S h a l l o w m a r k s , c i r c a 1 mm w i d e , p o s s i b l y f r o m c a r n i v o r e c l a w s o r c a n i n e s , a r e v i s i b l e a l o n g the b o n e .

T h e r e m a i n i n g t w o bones - p a r t of t h e c r a n i a l v a u l t o f a n 18 -25 y e a r o l d man a n d the l e f t m a n d i b l e of a y o u n g woman w i t h u n e r r u p t e d M3 a n d M 2 j u s t i n w e a r - l a y l e s s t h a n 1 m f r o m t h e same p i t , c l o s e to the w e s t e r n w a l l of the b u i l d i n g .

The p r e s e n c e of human bone r e m a i n s t h r o u g h o u t t h e a r e a of the ' C u c u t e n i - T r i p o l y e c u l t u r e and i n a l l i t s c h r o n o l o g i c a l phases i s less;

in frequent t h a n i t i s c o n s i d e r e d . I s o l a t e d f r a g m e n t s , m a i n l y f r o m s k u l l s , have been found i n a number of se t t l ements ( L u k a - V r u b l e v e t s -kaya, Frumuş i ca , K o l o d i s t o e , V e r e m i e , K o l o m i s h c h i n a I , P a v o l o c h e t c . ) , c h i e f l y a r o u n d h e a r t h s . T h i s has made many r e s e a r c h e r s a t t r i b u t e them a m a g i c - r i t u a l s i g n i f i c a n c e . G i v e n the l o c a t i o n s of t h e pieces of Drăguşeni , i t i s obv ious that t h i s i n t e r p r e t a t i o n does n o t apply to a l l f i n d s . Those under c o n s i d e r a t i o n i n d i c a t e i n d i f f e r e n c e t owards the d e a d , o r at l e a s t some of t h e m . The i n c i s i o n s on t h e femur shaft (perhaps the g n a w i n g m a r k s t o o ? ) can o n l y be r e l a t e d to anthropophagous p r a c t i c e s , no m a t t e r i f t h e y w e r e r i t u a l o r n o t . O n t h e other h a n d , as l o n g as not a l l a n i m a l bone f r a g m e n t s , w e r e c o l l e c t e d and s t u d i e d , many l e s s c h a r a c t e r i s t i c human f r a g m e n t s w e r e most p r o bably o v e r l o o k e d w h i l e the f o r m e r w e r e s e l e c t e d .

The l o c a t i o n of some i s o l a t e d s k u l l s i n s i d e se t t l ements ( V e r e m i e , T r i p o l y e , G i r o v , L i p c a n i , T r a i a n - D e a l u l F f h t f n i l o r ) suggests a c u l t of the s k u l l . So f a r i t has been documented o n l y i n the m o r e a d v a n c e d phases of the c u l t u r e ( C u c u t e n i A and A - B ) .

I s o l a t e d b u r i a l s i n s i d e s e t t l e m e n t s a r e a l s o k n o w n . The s k e l e t o n s w e r e e i t h e r c r o u c h e d , v a r i o u s l y o r i e n t a t e d , accompanied b y g r a v e goods o r not ( S o l o n c e n i I I , C h e r n i a k h o v o , V e r e m i e , K o l o m i s h c h i n a I , Doboşeni ) , o r l y i n g on the b a c k w i t h knees bent u p w a r d s ( N e z v i s k o ) o r s t r a i g h t ( T r a i a n - D e a l u l F f n t f h i l o r ? the t w o b u r i a l s f o u n d h e r e a r e p r o bably contemporaneous w i t h the C u c u t e n i A - B h a b i t a t i o n l e v e l ) . The f our " b u r i a l s i n c i r c u l a r g r a v e s " of T r a i a n - D e a l u l F f h t f n i l o r ( A - B phase of the C u c u t e n i c u l t u r e ) a r e the most s o p h i s t i c a t e d i n t e r m s of r i t e . The i n c o m p l e t e s k e l e t o n s a n d t h e i r p o s i t i o n suggest r i t u a l m u r d e r i n a t least two c a s e s .

P h y s i c a l l y t h e dead w e r e f a i r l y d i f f e r e n t , r a n g i n g f r o m g r a c i l e d o l i c h o c r a n i a l t o b r a c h y c r a n i a l w i t h A r m e n o i d f e a t u r e s .
