    Noi, acionnd din ordinul i n numele mpratului Japoniei, a Guvernului Japonez iCartierului General Imperial al Japoniei, acceptm prevederile Declaraiei emis de efiiguvernelor Statelor Unite, Chinei i Marii Britanii pe 26 iulie 1945 la Potsdam, la care a aderatulterior URSS, aceste patru puteri sunt numite n continuare Puterile Aliate.

    Prin aceasta proclamm capitularea necondiionat n faa Puterilor Aliate a CartieruluiGeneral Imperial al Japoniei i a tuturor forelor armate Japoneze i a tuturor forelor armate subcontrol Japonez, oriunde s-ar afla ele.

    Ordonm tuturor forelor Japoneze oriunde s-ar afla i poporului Japonez s ncetezeostilitile, s pstreze i s salveze de la distrugere toate vasele, avioanele i proprietilemilitare i civile, i s se supun tuturor cerinelor care ar putea fi impuse de Comandantulsuprem al Puterilor Aliate sau la ordinul acestuia, de ageniile Guvernului Japonez.

    Ordonm Cartierului general imperial japonez s emit de urgen ordine ctre comandaniituturor forelor japoneze i ai tuturor forelor sub control japonez oriunde s-ar afla ele s de

    predea necondiionat, ei i toate forele de sub controlul lor.

    Ordonm tuturor oficialitilor civile, militare i navale s se supun i s aplice toateproclamaiile, ordinele i directivele considerate de Comandantul suprem al Puterilor Aliatepotrivite pentru aducerea la ndeplinirea acestei capitulri i emise de el sau sub autoritatea sa, inoi ndemnm toate aceste oficialiti s rmn la posturile lor i s continue s-i ndeplineascdatoriile necombatante pn cnd vor fi eliberai n mod special de el sau de cineva de subautoritatea sa.

    Prin aceasta noi ne obligm pentru mprat, guvernul japonez i succesorii lor s ndeplinimcu bun credin prevederile Proclamaiei de la Potsdam i s emitem orice ordine i sntreprindem orice aciune care poate fi cerut de Comandantul Suprem a Puterilor Aliate sau deoricare alt reprezentant desemnat de Puterile Aliate cu scopul punerii n practic a acelei

    declaraii.Prin aceasta noi ordonm guvernului imperial japonez i Cartierului general imperial

    japonez s elibereze de ndat toi prizonierii de rzboi aliai i internaii civili aflai acum subcontrol japonez i s le asigure protecie, ngrijire, ntreinere i transport imediat n locurileindicate.

    Autoritatea mpratului i a guvernului japonez de guvernare a statului va fi supusComandantului suprem al Puterilor Aliate, care va lua astfel de msuri pe care le consider

    potrivite pentru punerea n practic a termenilor acestei capitulri.

    The Japanese Instrument of Surrender was signed by the last Japanese representative at 9:04AM on September 2, 1945, known as VJ day to Allied forces. Afterward, Gen. DouglasMacArthur, Commander in the Southwest Pacific and Supreme Commander for the AlliedPowers, also signed. He accepted the Japanese surrender "for the United States, Republic ofChina, United Kingdom, and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, and in the interests of theother United Nations at war with Japan." It marked the formal end of World War II.

    The document was signed on the deck of the US battleship USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. OnSeptember 6, Colonel Bernard Theilen brought the document and an imperial rescript toWashington, DC and on the following day presented them to President Harry Truman in a formalWhite House ceremony. The documents were then exhibited at the National Archives.

    The opening paragraph illustrates the importance attached to the Japanese Emperor, whilethe second gets to the heart of the matter by declaring the unconditional surrender of Japan.

    INSTRUMENT OF SURRENDER

    We, acting by command of and in behalf of the Emperor of Japan, the JapaneseGovernment and the Japanese Imperial General Headquarters, hereby accept the provisions setforth in the declaration issued by the heads of the Governments of the United States, China, andGreat Britain on 26 July 1945 at Potsdam, and subsequently adhered to by the Union of SovietSocialist Republics, which four powers are hereafter referred to as the Allied Powers.

    We hereby proclaim the unconditional surrender to the Allied Powers of the JapaneseImperial General Headquarters and of all Japanese armed forces and all armed forces under theJapanese control wherever situated.

    We hereby command all Japanese forces wherever situated and the Japanese people to ceasehostilites forthwith, to preserve and save from damage all ships, aircraft, and military and civil

    property and to comply with all requirements which my be imposed by the Supreme Commanderfor the Allied Powers or by agencies of the Japanese Government at his direction.

    We hereby command the Japanese Imperial Headquarters to issue at once orders to theCommanders of all Japanese forces and all forces under Japanese control wherever situated to

    surrender unconditionally themselves and all forces under their control.

    We hereby command all civil, military and naval officials to obey and enforce allproclamations, and orders and directives deemed by the Supreme Commander for the AlliedPowers to be proper to effectuate this surrender and issued by him or under his authority and wedirect all such officials to remain at their posts and to continue to perform their non-combatantduties unless specifically relieved by him or under his authority.

    We hereby undertake for the Emperor, the Japanese Government and their successors tocarry out the provisions of the Potsdam Declaration in good faith, and to issue whatever ordersand take whatever actions may be required by the Supreme Commander for the Allied Poers or

    by any other designated representative of the Allied Powers for the purpose of giving effect tothat Declaration.

    We hereby command the Japanese Imperial Government and the Japanese Imperial GeneralHeadquarters at once to liberate all allied prisoners of war and civilian internees now underJapanese control and to provide for their protection, care, maintenance and immediatetransportation to places as directed.

    The authority of the Emperor and the Japanese Government to rule the state shall be subjectto the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers who will take such steps as he deems proper

    to effectuate these terms of surrender.Signed at TOKYO BAY, JAPAN at 0904 I on the SECOND day of SEPTEMBER, 1945
