ACTIVITATEA UNUI ROMÂN IN ITALIA Zilede din u r m ă ne-au adus o vie du

rere. Unele ziare italieneşti au găsit prilej să no nedreptăţească. Iar durerea ne este cu atât m a i mare, cu cât iubirea noastră pentru patria m a m ă a neamului şi pentru fraţii mai m a r i de pe maluri le Tibrului n u este fructul calculat al chib-zuiriior politice trecătoare, ci este o nevoe organică a sufletului românesc . Dar íe vede că în Italia sunt încă prea mulţi cari nu n e cunosc. Vom fi socotiţi încă de mulţ i drept un popor oarecare, cu pretenţii de vagă latinitate, amint i tă în ocazii solemne, un fel de pretinsă rubedenie scăpătată — şi atât ! Alţii, oameni politici, informaţi poate din belşug despre alte popoare, n u au ajuns încă să se convingă că suntem u n popor ou individualitate ş i cu aspiraţi i proprii, cari dacă ar fi studiate serios, s ' a r dovedi că sunt paralele şi în nici un caz nu contrarii cu aspiraţi i le fraţilor mai mari . Avem aceiaş tecaur de păstrat şi aceentş menire istorică. Tocmai de aceea, Italienii cari aiu avut prilejul să n e cunoască, se skmt înTre noi acasă . îşi însuşesc comorile noastre culturale, ne a preciază arta, ne sprijinesc în toate o-caziile. Dar număirui acestora este încă destul de mic şi cinice aio ' ivitaie desfăşurată pentru a face cunoscută fiinţa şi calităţi le de orice natură ale poporul u<" românesc printre Italieni, trebue remarcată şi sprijinită. Şi despre o astfel de activitate, modestă în mijloacele ei, fără capitole bugetare oficiale, fără rapoarte râsunătoare, vreau să vorbesc. Căci dărnicia statului pentru propagandă peste hotare, foarte rare ori a dat roade cari eă t ragă în cumpănă . Dar sforţările i-nimosuiliui profesor Claudiu Isopescu — căci de el este vorba — rodesc din belşug.

Sunt vre-o şase ani, decând a plecat la Roma pentru studii . Dar odată studiile terminate, profesorul Isopescu, înţelegând nevoia de a se începe o campanie de lămurire a lumii intelectuale ital iene despre noi, a renunţat la situaţiile comode şi s igure pe oari le-ar fi primit în ţară, conform pregătirii pe oare o avea, şi a rămas ca s implu particular la postul de sacrificiu, ales de bună voe.

Activitatea şi-a desfă,şurat-o în diferite direcţii :

A răscolit prin arhivele Cetăţii Eterne şi a publicat mul te sute de documente în legătură cu trecutul nostru, în pubti-eaţiunile Şcoalei R o m â n e din Roma şi în Memorii le Academiei Române . Un pachet, de aJtte vre-o opt sute de copii de documente aşteaptă să fie publicat.

A ţinut comunicăr i despre Gh. Asachi la Roma şi despre dovezile vechi italiene

despre lat initatea Românilor, la Congre

sul de Studii Române , ţ inut la Roma. A publicat s ingur şi a inspirat publi

carea a unei serii de cărţi şi broşuri despre arta, cultura, lat initatea noastră. Chiar în zilele acestea a publicat la A-cademda R o m â n ă u n studiu în italieneşte despre publica ţiu ni le Cinquecento-lui i tal ian, cari vorbesc despre Români .

Valoarea acestor studii a fost semnalată de d-1 Iorga în Rev. Istorică., la Iaşi in Arhiva, în Cernăuţi in Codrul Cosmi-nului — toate reviste universi tare— precum şi în alte ziare şi reviste r o m a n i şi italiene.

O faptă de bun Român a p" )fesoruhii Isopescu a fost comemorarea din ani i trecuţi a lui Nicoilae Bălcescu la Universitatea din Pa lermo, la oare s'a asocia* lumea univers i tară i ta l iană, conducătorii politici şi culturali italieni ş i români .

Dar pe lângă aceste manifestări ocazionale şi oarecum publice ale sale, profesorul Isopescu a ţinut mai mulţ i ani în şir un curs de l imba şi l i teratura română la Universirfatea din Roma, în mod absolut gratui t . A reuşit să înveţe româneşte câteva zeci de studenţi i talieni, cari — oeeaoe e şi mai important — şi s i m t româneşte şi d a u dovadă despre aceasta , de câte ori au ocazie: scriu articole despre Români şi România , traduc din l i teratura noastră şi ne-au vizitat în anul trecut împreună cu câţiva profesori uinirveraitari, rămânândurme I rteiemi devotaţi. Univers i tatea din Roma — ca şi alte instituţi i de înaltă valoare culturală — apreci ind rezultatele strălucite ale acestui curs, a u făcut ca din anul acesta înainte cursul să devină oficial, iar profesorul Isopescu a fost numit conferenţiar t i tu lar al cursului — bine înţeles, sat is facţ ia e de ordin sufletesc, căci pentru aceas ta nu va fi salariat . Astfel în urma munci desiinteresate a u-nui s implu particular, l imba r o m â n ă a devenit obiect de studiu ia Universi tatea œ a mai m a r e a Italiei.

Pe lângă cursul regulat ţ inut la Universitatea din Roma, profesorul Isopescu a fost invitat să ţ ină conferinţe şi la Universitatea din Pisa şi Neapale. A în-temeat o secţie românească la Biblioteca Universităţi i din Roma.

Pe lângă toate acestea, d. Isopescu a desfăşurat o uimitoare act ivi tate ziarist ică. A publicat aproape două sute de articole în peste treizeci de ziare i tal iene din întreaga Peninsulăs, a inspirat şi а dat material pentru alte vreo trei su te de articole, toate despre Români şi România , A colaborat la 15 reviste i tal ieneşti , scriind articole apreciate despre cul tura, latinitatea, poezia populară, scriitorii şi arta noastră. Academia R o m â n ă are un

v o l u m i n o s d o s a r c u p r i n z â n d toate aotak a r t i c o l e .
