ABSTRACT
Genetic markers are different forms of the same gene that controls expression of
phenotypic mutants and identifying the presence of a gene at the individual level. Genetic
markers are based on gene polymorphism in the phenotypic expression in relation to
environmental conditions.
There are three types of genetic markers: morphological, biochemical and molecular.
Molecular markers are the most because their use are unlimited, they come from different types
of mutations in DNA: substitutions (point mutations), rearrangements (inserts or deletions) or
errors in DNA replication in tandem.
The most important applications of molecular markers in breeding of plants are
represented by markers-assisted selection, backcross, acceleration and detection of genetic
diversity and the differences between the various populations.
