Foreign diplomats hope that the president of the Republic of Moldova, will be elected on 16

march

The head of EU delegation, is optimistic regarding to the presidential elections and hopes that the

president will finally be elected on 16 march.

The official told that if the election fails, the relation progress between Moldova and EU will slow

down.

Concerning this subject, the European official said: If the elections will fail again, I am afraid that

the Parliament should be dissolved and early elections would be organized.

This will mean, less progress in our bilateral relations, because politicians will focus on election

preparations.

Moreover, Schuebel considers that Moldova could concentrate on the reforms, only if tomorrows

elections will be positive.

The diplomats says that the success of this elections, guarantees great accomplishments concerning

the visa regime liberalization with EU, or the free trade agreement.

On the other hand, representatives of diplomatic corps, in Chisinau believe that the implementation

of reforms should continue, regardless of the tomorrows vote. While the Ukrainian Ambassador in

Chisinau, Serghei Pirojkov, considers that, if early elections would be avoided, the relationship

between Kiev and Chisinau, will improve. The failure of presidential elections could delay the reform process and the economical

development of the country.

But the most important thing is that some partners, with whom your country cooperated, could start

to be suspicious, regarding Moldova., said Serghei Pirojkov.

For almost 3 years, leading organizations and European institutions, have warned repeatedly about

the need for presidential elections. They underlined that, without political stability, Moldovas

European Integration is impossible.

Therefore, the presidential elections will be held on Friday, a day considered very important by the

prime-minister Vlad Filat.

The candidate for presidency, Nicolae Timofti, announced that if he is be elected as president of the

Republic of Moldova, his first visit would be in Brussels.

My first visit will be in Brussels. I want to convince everyone that the decision made, is a good

one. I want to convince Europeans, that we have a good governance program, which must be

accomplished. I have accepted to become a candidate because I accept 100 % this program, told

Nicolae Timofti, quoted by Moldova1. the Republic of Moldova, has no other future, than the

European one, added the candidate.

In an interview to Radio Europa Libera, Timofti said: We must develop a European country, to

reach the European level. In order to do that, we must work together, regardless the politics, identity

or the language we speak, because there are more important priorities, such as economy, poverty,

employment and wages.

The candidate for presidency, Nicolae Timofti, announced yesterday in a television show, the views

and reforms he will choose, if he is elected as president, on 16 march., informs Moldpres. Timofti

mentioned that he support the governance program, proposed by the Alliance for European

Integration, and that Moldova should continue to work on European integration. We must have a

clear direction, which is EU, though we should not forget the historic relations with neighboring

countries. Moldova is a small country and must promote smart politics , told Timofti.

The candidate of AEI claims that for the amendment of Constitution, especially the article

concerning the election of the president. Timofti says that Moldova should adopt a law for

opposition, because its place is not on the street, but in the Parliament. He added that he has a vision

in what concerns the justice reform.

It is about the accountability of judges, creation of self- governed bodies such as selecting judges.,

said Timofti. The only officially registered candidate, for the position of president, said that AEI, did

not put conditions when the asked him to apply for this office, but only demanded to respect the law.

He promised that he will have the role of a referee and will find the balance between legislative and

executive power.

The future president, will have the most complicated mandate, because he will occupy this office

during crisis and without a supporting team. This statements were made on a TV show, by several

analytical politics.

The political analyst, Anatol Taranu, said during this show that, the presidential election is a step

forward. He said that the chances of election are 60/40.

The political analyst, Igor Botan, said that,Nicolae Timofti, the only candidate for this election,

would be a good president. But he added, that he doesnt know if this candidate will face the crisis,

and the disagreements in the Alliance will crate problems. This Alliance can not bring the change,

added Botan. He noted that PL leader, Mihai Ghimpu, should provide explanations, after his

statements concerning the fact that the president will be elected though betrayal.

The political analyst, Oazu Nantoi, is pessimistic on the chances of electing the president. We do

not have positive experience, of democratic presidents.Timofti will not have support in the

Parliament, because of the disagreements in the Alliance. No miracles will happen and nothing will

change. The Alliance made several mistakes, and is still continuing to make them. State institutions

are paralyzed. In our society, the referee has disappeared. We reached to the situation when

politicians criticize the Constitutional Court. On 16 march, we will get the answer, on how much the

principles and values, in this country count, mentioned Nantoi.
