These programmes comprise 5 or 6 semesters oftheoretical studies plus one year sea going voyages. After acquiring experience as officer, I shall come back to the anytraining facility and follow a 6-month programme to become a captain.

Everybody knows that there is an International Convention that regulates the standards oftraining and certification of marchant navy officers. This convention is called STCW. Themost important element when choosing a maritime college is to check if it guarantees theSTCW competences and sea practice requirements. Now I am aware that officers navigatewith an international license under STCW convention, which does not require to be anengineer or a master in science; instead, the convention requires solid practical competences. Iwish I new this before!
