Special Telecommunications Service (STS) has been awarded a prize from the European Emergency Number Association, forthe actions carried out in the past 2 years in a national campaign of information of the pupils and students about the correctuse of the number 112. The award has been called "Remarkable contributions concerning 112".The event has taken place in Brussels, under the patronage of the Czech chairmanship of the European Union and of theBelgian state secretary for European Affairs.

At the end of last year, STS, in its capacity as manager and operator of the National System for Emergency Calls, met all therequirements set through plans of action aimed at easy tracking the caller to 112 from mobile telephony networks.According to the legal provisions, the tracking of the mobile terminals will be made only during the calls, and is aimed atdiminishing the access time of the intervention teams.Thanks to the solutions found, the Romanian System for Emergency Calls is considered one of the most modern in Europe,meeting all the community standards, STS said.

Due to the success scored last year, when a written petition concerning the European Emergency Number 112 was tabled by530 MEPs, the European Parliament and the European Commission will organize this year the Day of the EuropeanEmergency Number, on Feb 11, in Brussels.The start of the exploitation of the centers for being called by people in emergencies started, in the city of Bucharest, in2004, and ended, in the county of Tulcea, in March 2005. In April, 2005, the National System for Emergency Calls 112turned operational, in the entire Romania.112 is free of charge and the caller can use any telephone number, in a landline network or a mobile one, from Romania andthe entire Europe.
