When G. Harry Stine wrote about this gadget in his Mind Machines, he said he was really

hesitant to include it because it made no sense to him at all. I'm hesitant because it is so

damned simple you might be tempted not to bother with the other gadgets on this site!

Don't let the diagram ool you. ll you need is a piece o posterboard olded in hal, two

s"uares o oil, some spea#er wire and a plug and an earphone plus any audio ampliier, li#e asmall tape recorder.

Glue the pieces o oil to the inside o the olded posterboard so that you will ha$e a sandwich

o sorts when it is olded together. ttach the ends o the spea#er wire to the oil so one

strand is to each sheet. %his is then plugged into the microphone input o the ampliier

&assuming you are using a tape recorder or your amp. (lug the earphone into the earphone

)ac# so the earphone can act as the antenna.

%o use this, place the witness between the oil plates o the sandwich and then close it,

clipping it to hold it together. *ow, turn on the ampliier and then )ust thin#. %hat's all you

ha$e to do. *o complicated dial settings, nothing else.
