Moreover, the area around Piatra Neamt is one of the oldest inhabited areas in Romania and the one from where The Cucuteni culture stems, according the numerous remarkable settlements which have been the origins of a vast collection of artefacts, discovered in the many archaeological diggings. Nonetheless, Piatra Neamt has always been a significant centre of cultural events and festivals. Each year, owing to the fact that The Youth’s Theatre holds great performances, the town hosts the International Theatre Festival in addition to many others folkloric and film festivals. It is popularly believed that the main attractions of this town are the natural beauty of the surroundings, the historical buildings and the festivals mentioned above. Regardless of these ubiquitous aspects of the town potential, some people point out that outburst of tourism was caused by the new winter sports facilities and the usefulness provided by the cable car which connects the city centre with the main skiing slopes.
