GURA HUMORULUI

  Is a town in Suceava County, north-eastern Ramania.  It is situated in the historical region of Bucovina. Gura Humorului is the seventh largest urban settlement in the county, with a population of 12,729 inhabitants, according to the 2011 census. It was declared a town in 1904 and it became a resort in 2005. The town administers the former village of Voroneț (which became a neighborhood), site of Voronet Manastery.

GeographyGura Humorului is located in the

north-eastern part of Romania, in southern Bucovina. The town is situated at the eastern limit of Obicinele Bucovinei mountains, in Humorului Depression, at the confluence of Moldova River and Humor river. The average altitude of the town is 470 meters. The European route E58 and the Suceava-Vatra Dornei railway pass through the town. Suceava, the county capital, is located 34 km away. The town of Frasin is located nearby Gura Humorului.

DemographyAccording to the 1775 Austrian

Bukovina census, its population comprised only about 60,000 spread over 10,422 square kilometers. In order to encourage the development of this sparsely-settled land, the authorities subsidized the immigration of colonists to Bukovina. With the end of the first wave of settlement, colonists were to continue arriving at their own expense. As a result of these policies, the census of 1910 showed that the population had risen to over 800,000.

HistoryGura Humor History is full of legend. One legend

speaks of passing through these places during the tatar invasion in 1241 great when they found the rain swollen river waters Humor and called him to this Homor, meaning "repedele". Keeping the name of the place for centuries shows that there exists a human community that had continuity of life. Later mentions killing aurochs by Dragos place called today Boureni, located on the right bank of Humor, and passing through the eastern extremity of Bogdan I of town today, what is now called Bogdaneasa. Later still remember this legend Daniil the Hermit, after leaving the Putna, would have dug a cell in Piatra Neamt, above Arinis, before becoming abbot of the monastery Voronet. And, in the sixteenth century, is said Petru Rares wife, Helen, had buried treasure Lord Lady Rocks, located Chop Hill which guards the city from the west.

Evolution historyThe first documentary mention of the city dates from

February 26, 1490, a document issued by the office of Stephen the Great. After 1800, the village began to settle German, Polish, Hebrew, Ukrainian, founding, in 1835, the colony named "Bori". In 1835, the town is linked by telegraph to Vienna.During the Austrian occupation, Gura Humor grow in importance, being elevated to the rank of a small town and all territorial-administrative center (1820), then at the fair (1880) and the capital district (1893), and finally, in 1904, received city status.In the interwar period is the capital city in the county Campulung Homorului net. Between 1956-1958, mayor Gheorghe Lupu. Under his works are done on the course hydrotechnics Moldova. In 1971, 1972 and 1973 indundaţii place almost entirely destroying dams. Tourist atractionThe project entitled "ski slope, Orientation

Tourist, Park Meadow Moldova, Leisure, Sport" in Gura Humor is arranged a ski slope with a length of 1,350 meters, equipped with a lift and a snow product installation. Since January 2010, skiing "Falcon" is in use, is equipped with lighting system along the entire length of 1,350 meters with lift and snow product installation. Also, the slope there is a car park for 360 cars and 9 coaches. The recreation area "Ariniş" is built an indoor pool, Olympic size, a swimming pool for children, and are designed and built eight sports plus a night and a skating rink. The complex opened on 1 May 2010. The project is realized and public lighting in the Park Arboretum Ariniş. The access area to the side, on the right bank of river, is there a place for camping, caravans with all necessary utilities

Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Gura Humor - built in 1811 and considered the oldest Roman Catholic church in Northern operate.

Saints Constantine and Helen Church in Gura Humor - built in 1862, is in turn the Armenian church, Lutheran church and then after World War II the Church.

Cell of Daniil the Hermit is a cave dug into the rock Viţău valley in which it lived as a hermit Daniil the Hermit. It is located at a distance of about 1 km Putna Monastery (Suceava) .Chilia Daniil the Hermit was included in the list of historical monuments in Suceava County in 2004.

Putna Monastery is a place Orthodox monastery, one of the most important cultural, religious and artistic Romanian. It was called "Jerusalem Romanian Nation“.

It`s origin is not known precisely, but tradition still remembers during Musatinul rulers. Under the reign of Alexander the first church was built of stone, documented between 1402-1410 with the full set of constructs, having already dedicated to the Annunciation and cultural center. Monastery of Moldova and privileges enjoyed by Stephen the Great. Through several charters prince confirmed monastery 11 villages, several mountain lakes, beehives and commercial privileges, that stood among the richest monasteries in Moldova.
