Pe la începutul anilor ’50, când a fost inventată spuma poliureta-nică, puţini au fost cei care s-au gândit să utilizeze acest nou ma-

terial în domeniul nautic. În 1958 Richard T. „Dick” Fisher a pus bazele companiei Boston Whaler urmând să producă am-barcaţiuni folosind tehnologii şi materiale noi. Fiabilitatea şi calităţile ambarcaţiuni-lor construite din spumă poliuretanică şi fibră de sticlă devin cunoscute şi aprecia-te în scurt timp.

Istoria de aproape 60 de ani a mărcii

Boston Whaler 210 MontaukCând vine vorba despre bărci de pescuit pot să spun încă de la început că nu sunt mare amator… poate doar unul în devenire, dar am dat curs invitaţiei primite din partea grupului Brunswick pentru a testa pe întinsul Mării Mediterane mai multe modele de ambarcaţiuni din gama Boston Whaler. Boston Whaler reprezintă, în afară de ex-perienţă, şi o poveste de viaţă cu turbu-lenţe financiare, cu perioade de glorie, cu vânzări de active dar şi cu retehnologizări, urmând să îşi regăsească stabilitatea în 1996 când a fost achiziţionată de către Grupul Brunswick pentru aproximativ 27 milioane $.

În prezent, majoritatea pescarilor ştiu ce înseamnă Boston Whaler: o barcă ce îşi păstrează în timp nu doar calităţile nautice ci şi valoarea comercială.

Deşi condiţiile meteo nu s-au arătat

prea prietenoase, ne-am urcat conform progrămarii (4 persoane) la bordul unui Boston Whaler 210 Mountauk, o barcă nou lansată pe piaţă, echipată cu un mo-tor outboard Mercury de 150 CP, având o lungime de 6,5 m şi o lăţime de 2,59 m. Cu toate că am fost anunţati din timp de organizatori să ne prezentăm bine echi-pati eu am refuzat să cred că soarele ne va ocoli... De cum am ieşit din port ma-rea ne-a întâmpinat cu braţele deschise, iar ploaia, vântul şi valurile au ţinut să ne amintească că se poate şi mai rău. La în-

ceput m-am simţit un pic vulnerabil însă mi-am amintit de una dintre cele mai re-uşite reclame din domeniul nautic (vezi foto….) cu un Boston Whaler secţionat transversal ce era condus de un barbat care naviga demo cu 50% din barcă, pu-nând astfel în evidenţă atât flotabilitatea de excepţie cât şi materialele din care era construită.

Ce are special acestă barcă? Vă spu-neam că nu sunt pasionat de pescuit… ei bine, această barcă a fost gândită să îm-pace pe toată lumea aflată la bord. La pri-ma vedere este evident că avem în faţă o barcă de pescuit, dar studiind cu atenţie detaliile descoperim că poate face faţă cu succes şi altor cerinţe. Lista de opţi-uni destul de lungă ne asigură de faptul că putem adapta barca pentru practica-rea sporturilor nautice. Vă puteţi bucu-ra de asemenea şi de spaţiul destul de generos din prova pentru a face plajă, iar dacă vreţi să faceţi o baie scariţa telesco-pica de la pupa este exact ceea ce aveţi nevoie. În consola poziţionată central, cu acces lateral, un wc marin (opţional) poa-te completa confortul la bord. De remar-cat cadrul realizat din oţel inoxidabil care susţine ferm atât bimini-ul cât şi consola centrală, fără a se limita doar la aspec-tul estetic, aşa cum se întâmplă uneori la alte mărci de ambarcaţiuni. La fel, şi ba-lustrada s-a dovedit a fi foarte solidă dar şi utilă, mai ales în cazul în care condiţii-le de navigare au fost destul de nepriete-noase. Fiecare componentă este lucra-tă îngrijit şi îşi îndeplineşte rolul pentru care a fost proiectată. Bordul bărcii, deşi este simplist, lasă loc pentru upgrade-uri ulterioare, cum ar fi sistemele de naviga-ţie sau audio. Poziţia în timpul navigaţiei oferă o foarte bună vizibilitate pilotului datorită reglajelor multiple ale banchetei. Prova are forma unui cioc de raţă ceea ca face ca barca să pară şi mai mare decât este. Spaţiile pentru depozitarea peştelui nu lipsesc, iar câteva dispozitive pentru susţinerea undiţelor necesare pescarilor se regasesc de asemenea la bord.

Deşi valurile au încercat să ne intimide-ze în timpul testelor, barca a demonstrat că este foarte stabilă şi uşor de manevrat. Consistenţa cocii se putea face simţită mai ales atunci când săream peste valu-rile mării iar la aterizare zgomotul produs nu era asemănător unui bidon gol…

În concluzie, Boston Whaler 210 Mon-tauk este o barcă în care poţi să ai încre-dere, iar faptul că aceasta este foarte adaptabilă răspunzând mai multor cerinţe îi garantează succesul pe piaţă.

When it comes to fishing boats I can say even from the start that I am not a big fan … maybe I’m just becoming one but I accepted the invitation received from the Brunswick Group to test on the Mediterranean Sea several models of boats from the Boston Whaler range.

In the early ’50s, when the polyurethane foam was invented, few were those who thought to use this new material in the nautical field.

In 1958, Richard T. „Dick” Fisher founded the Boston Whaler company and afterwards he produced boats using new technologies and materials. Viability and the qualities of boats built from polyurethane foam and fibreglass became known and appreciated shortly after.

The history of almost 60 years of the Boston Whaler brand represents,

besides experience, also a life story with financial turbulences, with glory periods, assets sales, but also with the implementation of new technologies. Subsequently, it found stability again in 1996 when it was purchased by the Brunswick Group for approximately 27 million $.

Currently, most fishermen know what Boston Whaler means: a boat which in time maintains not only its nautical qualities, but also its commercial value.

Although the weather conditions were not quite favourable, we went (4 persons) according to the schedule on board of a Boston Whaler 210 Mountauk, a new boat released on the market, equipped with a Mercury outboard engine of 150 HP, having a length of 6.5 m and a width of 2.59 m. well equipped, I refused to think that the sun will avoid us... As soon as we exited the port, the sea welcomed us and the rain, wind and waves insisted on reminding us that it can get worse. At the beginning, I felt a little vulnerable, but I remembered one of the most successful commercial from the nautical domain (see photo….) with a Boston Whaler that was transversally sectioned and driven by a man that sailed for a demo with 50% of the boat, thus emphasizing both the exceptional floatability and the materials from which it was built.

What is special about this boat? As I said before, I am not passionate about fishing … well, this boat was conceived to please everyone on boat. At first sight it is obvious that we have in front of us a fishing boat, but at a closer look we discover that it can successfully face other requirements as well. The quite

long options list ensures us of the fact that we can adapt a boat for practicing nautical sports. Also, you can enjoy the quite generous space from the bow for sunbathing, and if you want to take a bath, the telescopic stair from the stern is exactly what you need. In the centrally positioned console, with lateral access, a marine WC (optional) can complete the comfort on board. To notice that the stainless steel frame which firmly sustains both the bimini and the central console, without being limited only to the aesthetic aspect as it sometimes happens in the case of other brand boats. It is the same in the case of balustrade, which proved to be highly solid but also useful, especially in the case in which sailing conditions were quite unfavourable. Each component is neatly constructed and it fulfils the role for which it was designed. Although simple, the boat’s board leaves place

for further upgrades, such as navigation or audio systems. The position during sailing offers a very good visibility for the pilot due to multiple adjustments of the bench. The bow has the shape of a duck beak which makes the boat seem even bigger than it is. The fish storage spaces are not lacking and several devices for supporting the fishing rods necessary to the fishermen are as well on board. Although the waves tried to intimidate us during tests, the boat proved to be very stable and easy to operate. The consistence of the body could be felt especially when we were over the sea’s waves and on landing, the produced noise did not resemble those of an empty canister…

To conclude, Boston Whaler 210 Montauk is a boat you can trust and the fact that it is very adjustable by meeting several requirements ensures its success on the market.
