Goal: This complex small sided soccer drill emphasises developing team

play, transition and basic tactical cooperation while defending.

Organisation

Cones are used to create a square. Mark a neutral zone in the middle of the square which splits thearea into two zones. Place 5 players into both zones and identify them with different colors. Identify adefending team with a third color and place them as shown: two defenders in one of the zones, threedefenders into the neutral zone. Load: 60-120 sec. Rest: 45-60 sec.Description

One of the teams tries to keep posession in the area against the two defenders. Team in posessiontries to play the ball through the neutral zone between the three defenders. When players inposession can pass the ball through and play the other team defenders have to run into the otherzone to take the ball from the other posessioning team. When defenders take the ball they have to

pass the ball to the other side and the team who loses the ball will be the defending team. Defendersin the neutral zone try to close the passing directions with spreading in depth.

Team in posession tries to play as quickly as they can. Three defenders in neutral zone try to close

the passing directions.

When the pass from the team in posession reaches the other team in posession defenders have to

react and run to the other zone to defend. While changing the side defenders have to arrange which

two players will be the defenders in the posessioning zone and which three will defend the neutral

zone.

Players in posession try to keep the ball on the ground and find its way to the other side.

When the team in posession can not play the ball to the other side because the defenders close the

passing directions they have to keep the posession and find another opportunity. First is keeping

posession. (5-6)

When player in posession loses the ball with making a wrong decision and trying to get the ball to

the other side when it is too risky his team has to go to the other zone to defend. The team who gets

the ball passes it to the other zone and runs to replace the team in the opposite side.

Coaching Points

To be able to do the small sided soccer drills successfully games should be played on an adequate

area for different age groups. We always have to consider the players technical skills and their

mental status. Besides this the quality of the pitch is also very important. If its necessary we can

change the size of the area during the game.
