Instructions:Note 1: You can either leave a long tail of yarn at the start or at thenish of the rose (or both ends), to stitch the strip of petals together. (I leave a tail at theend, after fastening the last row o, so the long yarn tail at the start won’t get in the way.)Note 2: The ea!ple rose includes "# petals. $ee alterations below if you wish to !a%e alarger&s!aller rose.

Row 1: Make as many chains as you wish, in order to create a rose the size you wish.(See below: alterations  A. )'or this ea!ple rose make 118ch.  Then, into th ch fro! the hoo% wor% *dc. +fter that,*ch, s%ip -ch fro! the chain row, and *dc, -ch, *dc/ into the net st. The rst row loo%sli%e a row of 01shapes. 2epeat 1 to the end of the chain stitches. Turn.(You should have 39 !sha"es at the end o# row $.)

Row 2: 'irst "ch (counts as the rst dc). Then *dc, -ch, -dc/ into rst -1ch sp (in otherwords, work the ne%t row into the !sha"es). 'ro! then on -ch, -dc, -ch, -dc/ in net -1chsp. 2epeat 1 to the end. Turn.

Row 3: &his is the row that creates the 'nal "etals. See alterations B below, #or morein#ormation.

$tart row " straight away with double crochet stitches after turning, wor%ing the doublecrochet stitches into the -1ch spaces, and then attaching each petal to the net -1ch spacewith a sc.

t the end o# ow *, you should still have 39 two!chain s"aces, meanin+ you can create 39 "etals. have divided the "etals and the amount o# double crochet stitches made into themas #ollows:

    • *3 petals of *3 dc

    • 4 petals of 4 dc

    2/3

    • 5 petals of 5 dc

    • # petals of 6 dc

    • " petals of 7 dc

    • - petals of dc

$o following this division, !a%e *3dc into net -1ch sp, *sc into net -1ch sp/ *3 ti!es intotal. +nd then 4dc into net -1ch sp, *sc into net -1ch sp/ eight ti!es.. and so on, until

you get to the nal petal of dc. +ttach the nal dc on top of the "ch of the previous rowwith a sc or a slip stitch . 8eave a tail long enough to weave in, and fasten o.

    Assembling the rose

2oll up the rose, starting fro! the s!allest petals. 2oll the net layers around the base ofthe s!allest petals. 9eep the base of the rose :at so that the rose doesn’t turn into a spirallycone (try to loo% at the base too while you’re rolling it up).

(;f course, if you don’t want the rose to be :at, you can push the !iddle of the rose up a bitfro! the base, and then

it will create "# petals. + for!ula, if you will, is as follows the nu!ber of petals you want/ "ch B chB) If you wish to change the siCe of the petals, you need to !a%e !ore&less double1crochetstitches at the last row (row ") into the -1ch spaces. Depending on the thic%ness of youryarn, you can start with !a%ing, for ea!ple, *3dc into each petal, and then gradually !a%eless and less dcs into each petal, or even !a%e the sa!e a!ount of dcs into each space,

creating petals that are all the sa!e siCe. Test out how the petals are divided into eachrolled1up layer (for instance, if you !a%e *3 petals that all have #dc, they will create thebase for the rose, then the net rolled1up layer will be s!aller, so !a%e fewer petals withless dc in the!). Ey suggestion is that you should !a%e a lot of !ediu!1siCed petals in the!iddle of the strip, with 6 or 5 dcs in the!, and about one or two layers of bigger petals forthe base, and
