Why Entrance Matting Systems?Foot-borne dirt carried inside buildings can be abrasive to sensitive finishes li-ke marble, timber or laminates. Many surfaces will be made slippery by mo-isture introduced on visitors feet which can compromise safety. Increased we-ar on carpets and other types of floor covering can occur from dirt carried onfootwear and the impression created by a carefully designed entrance will bespoiled.

An efficient entrance matting system needs to address all these considera-tions by removing dirt, moisture and grit introduced on visitors feet, before it

can be carried inside the building.

Special Matting Frames

Usage

It is recommended that for all Geggus EMS matting systems frames arerequired unless there is a pre-existing frame. They provide an accurate base

within the mat well upon which to seat a mat. A correctly sized frameholds the mat rigidly in place and allows ease of access to mat

well for cleaning purposes or removal of the mat. TopClean Trend 10 mm and 17 mm can be used surfacemounted with the Special Ramped Edge Frame inapplications where a fitting well is impractical or

undesirable (please also see page 22).

Specification

3 mm gauge profile in Aluminium, Brass or Stainless Steel available in avariety of depths and widths to suit your installation. To establish which sizematches your selected matting system see below.

All frames are supplied precision drilled with accurately mitred corners andspecially designed corner pieces to maintain an accurate and square assembly.

Fitting

Frames must be installed level andtrue and screeded into the mat well tothe correct depth. Geggus EMS recom-

mend the use of a self-levelling scree-ding compound. Special attentionshould be paid to the final level of theframe with the mat installed.

For installations of over 3000mm width,mats will be supplied in two or moresections and the frame will be supplied to suit. For frames of over 1 metrein length, frame sections are supplied with anchor plates riveted into positionto allow the frame to be securely screeded into position. Drain holes must beprovided in all exterior installations.

Custom Made Frames

To match custom shaped mat installations, Geggus producecustom made frames to suit. The red lines indicate the type of shapewhere additional charges are incurred. For specifying your requiredshape accurately please refer to measuring instructions on Page 19.

Planning for Geggus EMS Matting System

When planning the installation of a Geggus EMS matting system the follo-wing points need to be considered.

Optimum EffectivenessThe mat sits in a frame set into a well in the floor. How to measure for thisframe and well is described on page 18.

Surface MountingThis can easily be achieved with the Top Clean Trend 10 mm and 17mm whichcan be supplied with a Ramped Edge Frame (please also see page 22).

Traffic DirectionThe installation of the mat should always be with the aluminium profiles at

right angles to the traffic direction.

Larger InstallationsFor entrance mat installation of over 3000mm, it is recommended that themat is divided into two or more manageable units. For a guide as to dividingsee page 20.

Exterior DrainageWhere an exterior use is planned, the well must be equipped with drainageholes.

Heavy UsageFor areas of heavy usage, extreme heavy duty or where trolleys are to beused, the Top Clean Stabil or Top Clean Object range is built to a heaviergauge and is more suitable to these types of application. See pages 12, 13and 16.

Special ShapesFor special shapes it is recommended that a template be produced in a suit-ably stable material. The red lines indicate the type of shape where additio-nal charges are incurred.

InsideFor an inside installation, any combination of Geggus EMS can be usedbut Top Clean Trend Ribbed Carpet, Top Clean Stabil Ribbed Carpet and Top

Clean Object Ribbed Carpet is recommended.

Transitional AreasAt a transitional or intermediate location Top Clean Light, Top Clean Trendand Top Clean Stabil are suitable in any combination but Ribbed Carpetwith a Scraper Bar or Ribbed Carpet with Cassette Brush are particularlyrecommended.

OutsideFor outside use any of the Top Clean Stabil or Top Clean Trend systems ex-cept those with ribbed carpet can be used but the Grooved Rubber, GroovedRubber with Brush Strip or Grooved Rubber with Cassette Brush provide themost effective dirt and moisture barrier.

Measuring for Specification

GeneralWherever possible Geggus EMS Entrance Mats will be manufactured in onepiece. However, for mats in excess of 3000mm width it is recommended that

the installation is divided into two or more pieces. This keeps the weight ofany one mat assembly within reasonable limits with regard to moving or rol-ling up for cleaning purposes (See page 21).

Remember to specify whether the matting is to be used in an exterior orinterior location.

If required, a fitting service is available. Please ask for details.

Measuring

Ensure that you clearly identify:

1. The aluprofile measurement (side to side or at right angles to thewalking direction).

2. The walking direction measurement (the direction of the traffic flow).

3. Whether the dimensions are for the external measurement of themat or external measurement of the frame.

For complete mat and frame assemblyPlease supply the overall external measurements.

For supply of matting to fit an existing well or framePlease supply the frame inside measurement.

For surface mountingPlease supply the required mat size.

For surface mounting with rampsPlease supply the overall outsidemeasurements.

Like any other floor covering subject to heavy use, Geggus EMS EntranceMatting Systems benefit from a regular cleaning regime. The foot borne dirtwill have fallen between the treads into the well. How much dirt collects ob-

viously dictates the frequency of cleaning.In most locations, however, we would re-commend cleaning once a week.

The cleaning of accumulated dirt from themat well is made so much simpler by thefacility to roll up the mat while using abrush or vacuum cleaner to remove the dirt.

It is important to ensure that dirt does not become lodged under the alumi-nium sections as this would stop the mat from lying flat in the well.

Under normal circumstances the mat can be cleaned using a vacuum cleanerbut in areas of particularly heavy usage it is recommended that the matting

receive a regular clean usinga high-pressure cleaner. To dothis it will be necessary to re-move the mat to a suitablelocation and stand verticallyfor cleaning.

Insert ReplacementIf an insert becomes inundated with a contaminant such as chewing gum or oil which makes it impossible to clean, individual tread inserts can be replacedas shown here. However it must be stressed that this should only be considered for one or two treads as replacement of more than that is impractical. Newtread inserts are available by calling us and quoting the style of matting and the colour of the insert.

Strip out the damaged tread removing the oldadhesive with a suitable solvent.

Remove the backing material from the adhesiveside of the new tread and place carefully into

position.

Finish by firmly setting the new insert into placeusing a rubber hammer. Trim off any excess mate-

rial to length of aluprofile.
