PORTAGE Definition:

Is a system to assess the needs of young children's who suffer from late growth, including those who have severe disabilities in education in their local environment, especially home. Also this program helps in educating mothers of these children from birth and up to 6 years. It serves VARIOUS types of disabilities from physical and mental

Objective of the program:

The overall objective of the program is to serve the largest possible number of children who suffer from disability since birth and up to 6 years and they dont get any quality of services. Also Provide social, educational services and specialized rehabilitation for disabilities

The program within the Shafallah:

Portage program was founded in November 2008 to serve children from birth and up to six years

The program serves children with mental disabilities at all levels and types (simple - Medium - severe). As The belief of Shafallah Centre that the early childhood period is a critical stage and is the phase where the developmental areas (mental - motor - physical - emotional - social - emotional .............) of the child is developed , concentrating that the family is the first pillar and basic in the life of the child because of their strong influence positively or negatively

Program services:

Presentation of the program within the Shafallah Center through the family Support department and at home for children from birth and up to six years, that Shafallah standard were applied on them through

Identify the strengths and weaknesses of children and help to designing a special program for each child based on his abilities and needs in collaboration with the mother through the Developmental sophisticated lists that include the following educational fields :

Infant Stimulation.

Socialization.

Language.

Self-help.

Cognitive.

Motor.

Provide individual coaching sessions for the child and mother for an hour twice a week inside the centres family support unit and in their local environment (home).

Providing the support services which include :

Related services (physical therapy - speech therapy).

Psychological services (evaluation - a behavioural intervention).

Family support services (guide and outreach to childrens family - configure a support groups of the parents).

Health services (medical tests - nutrition).

Training & preparing the parents to work as trainers for their children (through individual weekly meetings - lectures and workshops per month).

Increasing public awareness program through brochures - posters - booklets awareness - training Lectures The Awareness of various commentators in the Qatari society.
