Bogdan Voda Church, build in 1718 is one of the most renowned ones in the region, due also to its central position in the valley of Iza, at a crossroads. The wooden church of St. Nicholas is not very big, only 18 m long, with a tower that reaches up to 25 m, without the next-door stone church it would look quite monumental. Cârlibaba, traditional village of northern Romania, is a small but fairly high altitude (1600m) resort, located 36km from Vatra Dornei. Gheorghe Zamfir is known as "The Master of the Pan Flute" for playing an expanded version of the traditional Romanian-style pan flute (nai).
