Mod Podge

Clear gloss sealer

Put about one cup of epsom salts into each bowl. Add ONE DROP of blue food coloring to

one of the bowls and mix until evenly distributed. Add ONE DROP of green food coloring

to another bowl and mix.

Put the white epsom salts onto a paper plate and gently shake back and forth to get an

even layer. Place your hand inside the jar.

Use a paintbrush to coat the jar generously in Mod Podge. You want to use a generousamount, but not so much that it’s dripping off the jar. First paint around the bottom rim

of the jar, then the body of the jar, then the top rim. (Notice that in the picture below

there’s no Mod Podge on the rim. IGNORE that, just follow my instructions instead.)

Starting at the bottom rim of the jar, roll in the epsom salts. Next roll the body of the jarand the top rim.

Stand the jar up onto a separate paper plate and add some Mod Podge to the top lip ofthe jar. Sprinkle some epsom salts onto the lip.

Repeat this process for each color. Allow each jar to dry for a few hours. Use a clean

paintbrush to loosen and remove any salt that fell inside the jars and to gently knock off

any excess on the outside of the jars.

Spray with a clear gloss sealer. Let dry for about 20 minutes, repeat for a total of 3 coats.

NOTE: I tried several different coatings over the salt (Mod Podge in three different types

and a triple thick paint on gloss sealer) but the spray sealer works the best.

What You Need

Glass hurricane candle holder Evergreen pieces Spray adhesive Pillar candles

How to Make It

1. Prepare the glass surface by cleaning it with window cleaner. Then select any flat evergreen pieces you would like touse. Coat the greenery with spray adhesive.

2. Wait a few seconds for the adhesive to get tacky and then attach each piece to the container with the ends hanging fromthe bottom of the container.

Select a few old t-shirts from your closet, a thrift store, or your Aunt Marcy'sNASCAR t-shirt collection. I used 5.5 t-shirts to make a rug that is approximately18" in diameter, but if you have more time and patience than I do or if you want a

bigger rug, you could use more shirts. Next step is to prepare the t-shirts bycutting them and turn them into yarn. I used a method that I found on YouTubebut I took some photos of this step for here.

You will want to flatten the shirt out in front of you, but face it sideways so thatone sleeve points toward you and the other points away from you. Next, measureout every 2 inches from the bottom seam of the shirt (which is on the left or rightside now), all the way to under the sleeves of the shirt. Mark with chalk orsomething that won't be obnoxiously permanent. You will want to start cutting oneach mark or line you made, but leave 3-4 inches of the shirt still intact on the far

side. Do this up to the sleeves, where you should cut all the way to the otherseam. After you cut all of these lines, you can pick up the shirt and arrange it so itlooks like a ribcage in front of you, as shown in the photos above. See that bit offabric that you didn't cut? Now you're going to cut it diagonally so that you willend up creating one long piece of fabric from your t-shirt. This is really hard toexplain, but as aforementioned, there are a crapload of YouTube videosexplaining how to do this so feel free to search around if you need more coherentdirection.

You should end up with a really long strip of fabric from your t-shirt. Stretch this

out really, really well and wind it up into a ball so it is more manageable. Repeatfor your other shirts.

They [Anthropologie] sell all sorts of fancy and unattainable things, but the store is full of pieces constructed out of

paper and wire and rope that give the same distinguished impression. I wanted to do a project in the spirit of their

visuals, using everyday materials. I was inspired by the Rhododendron Chandelier, an $898 handcrafted paper

lantern, ironically from Anthropologie. — Heather

Materials

100–125 white standard-sized paper cupcake liners

100–125 vertically striped petit fours papers

(1) 18–20″ white paper lantern

hot glue gun

1 Hemma Cord from IKEA (for lighting) ($3.99)

Instructions

1. Assemble the lantern and place it top up in a wide, shallow bowl to act as a base.

2. Put a small dot of hot glue on the backside of a white cupcake liner. Starting about 1/2″ in from the wire ring at the

top of the lantern, place the cupcake liner on the lantern and press until it is attached.

4. Apply the cupcake papers around the lantern in rings until you are 3/4 of the way down, and then flip the lantern

over and gently place it back in the bowl, top side down.

5. Complete the underside, and fill in the bottom so that the papers cover the base opening.

6. Begin applying the petit fours papers, centering them inside each white paper. Three-quarters of the way up the

lantern, flip it top side up. Complete the top side.

7. Go back through, gently manipulating the outer papers to the desired shape. I kept mine fairly organic.

8. Drop a light in, and voila!

Wondering how this bench was made from old chairs? The method is simple. The iron supports of the

seats were used, joining them. Then, two old planks were fixed, refurbished and here is the result. What

you need is tools (pliers, hammer, screwdriver, cutting torch) to assemble the stand, drill to fasten planks,

varnish to give them a pleasant look and imagination to customize it.

How I placed my three rhinestones: one big in the middle,

I had 3 bath towels that had stains on them, but otherwise were in really good shape so I

decided to turn them into my next project.

I folded each towel in half and cut into 1.5 in strips.

Then get those fingers warmed up because there was A LOT of braiding going on. I folded the

raw edges to the inside to minimize freying.

After you braid one set of strips you sew on another. and another ...and another Until you

have a giant long braided rope of towels.

I then twisted the center and wrapped it around as I hand stiched the rows into place.
