About the DesignerCheyanne is a Chicago native in her fourth year of studying Integrated Multimedia at Hawaii Pacific University. She likes to think of herself as a simple person. A good day for her would include staying at home, playing video games, and possibly having a drink or two with a small group of friends. She looks toward writing and music as ways to de-stress and put her thoughts in order. She hopes to one day work in Japan either in radio broadcasting or as a graphic designer. CheyannesDesigns was created in 2015 as a way for Cheyanne to brand and showcase her work. As of now, she focuses more on designing using photography.

Theme One

Whitney Young High School

I used my high school as the subject for this first theme. I wanted to create a simple invitation for

orientation using the school colors of blue and orange to give to prospective parents and students. I

envisioned the invitation to be printed on heavy weighted paper with a grey undertone to it.

As for the second piece, I made a design for senior class t-shirts. I wanted to keep it simple yet something

that the class of 2011 could show pride in by wearing during school events and beyond graduation.

For the final project, I wanted to make a two page spread for my class of 2011 yearbook that would

include candid pictures of graduating seniors as well as their signatures. I kept with the school color theme

and added in the school’s emblem to give it a more at-home, school pride feel.

This theme happens to be my personal favorite, hence why it has the most pieces out of all of the themes.

Thanks to the help of my friend and classmate Justine, I was able to transform her into the trendsetting

Guamanian rapper JuPe. All the photos used in these pieces were taken and edited by me. JuPe’s name text

plays as both her signature and logo.

My third theme is based on an imaginary company I created called Opticool. Opticool is a circle lens company that is

targeted towards young women and teens. The creators pride themselves on making a product that is stylish while staying

affordable, safe, and long-lasting. Because this product is marketed to a younger audience, I decided to use vibrant

colors, strokes and text in the logo design, giving it a slight 80s feel. For the ad, the picture was not taken by me but I did

the color editing of the eyes and skin.

Theme Three

This final theme is dedicated to an imaginary hair care company that I created. “Pragtige” is the name of a women’s hair care line specifically

designed for African-American hair. Pragtige, which means “beautiful” in Afrikaans, specializes in shampoos, conditioners, leave-in conditioners, hair

masks, hair oils, styling gels, and hair sprays. The fact that these products are 100% natural and gentle on the hair sets it apart from its competitors.

Also, because a wide range of African-American women with different hair types can use these products, it has proven to be versatile and effective

while staying affordable. Because the founder of the product is from Namibia, the signature colors coincide with the colors of the Namibian flag: yellow, blue, red, green, and white. The signature visual components of the

line is a silhouette of a woman with an afro that has the Namibian flag symbol for power and existence (yellow sun) in her hair. These products are

only sold in the US as of right now, but are on the verge of becoming available for the international market.
