Learn How to Knit - Slip Knot

A slip knit is the starting point of everything you do in knitting and is the basis for the cast on.

    (1) Make a circle with yarn, about 12" fro end.

    (2) !ull a loop through the circle.

() #nsert the needle into the loop.

($) !ull the loop gently and evenly to tighten and slide the knot up to the needle.

Broken down in very simple terms, knitting is just a matter of transferring loops from one needle to another. To get started, youll

need to put loops on one needle, and that pro!ess of !reating loops is !alled !asting on.

There are several methods of !asting on. "a!h has a uni#ue purpose and produ!es a different edge. Try different methods to find

the one most !omforta$le and suita$le to your proje!t.

Alternate nit and !url stitches until the row is finished (or for however any stitches the pattern specifies).

Learn to Knit - Slip Stit!h

#t is often necessary to slip (sl) a stitch fro one needle to the other without actually knitting or purling it. %his ethod is often used in shaping or

within a stitch pattern. %he pattern will specify whether to slip the stitch knitwise (as if to knit) or purlwise (as if to purl). %he working yarn

should be held behind the work in both cases unless the pattern specifies otherwise.

lipping the stitch knitwise is done by inserting the needle as if to knit. %his ethod causes the stitch to be twisted, which can becoe a feature

of a stitch pattern. %o slip purlwise, insert the right-hand needle into the ne&t stitch on the left-hand needle as if to purl and transfer it to the right-

    hand needle.

needles specified in the pattern instructions).

    (2) Arrange the three needles into a triangle, being careful to not twist the stitches. %he cast on edge should lie on the inside of the triangle.

#f purl rows are on the right side, you ay have an easier tie working under one row rather than two.
